Nice one there, Doug...
i noticed the whammy bar only has one bend in it (I have one similar on my 66 ow jag)... did that bar come with the jm, or did you have a vintage one hanging around ?

Re: She's Real Fine... My FIF-TEE-NINE
Thanks everyone! I feel lucky. Both of these were such good scores.
When I transferred over the parts onto this body, I used the earlier neckplate too. I suppose both guitars are actually '59s. But as I said, its kind of a wash.
I had both bars off and lost track of which was which. The other is longer and has two bends. I've since looked at tons of gold guards (the thread here in the forum provided many pics!).... and decided that every single one of these are different. I think both are correct. I noticed they both have fairly white tips too, which is a sign of the early ones. For some reason they don't seem to yellow so much.
Which arm would you go with? :-\
Edit: I just looked at the pics of the blonde from when I got it... it IS the same shorter arm. So I have them in the right places, although both are pat pend tails and not far apart...
Well, when all these part were on the blonde body, one main pot was very early '59, 6th week I believe... and was original. The other pot was late '58... so technically, the blonde was a '59 too (since the guitar can't be older than its newest part). The neck is 12/58. I guess thats why the seller advertised it as a 58, and I got in the habit of referring to it as such even before I received it. Odds are, the blonde body is '58... but who knows (the date was erased in the refin). It doesn't make much difference as all 9 holers would be the same... and were only made for what... 6 - 7 months? less? The 58s didn't even go into production until the fall of '58.but do you still consider it a 1959, or is it a 1958 (since only the body is 1959)?

By the way... I played it for some time after I posted these pics. I am really amazed at how versatile it is... with the toggle, and main tone control alone it yields so many sounds... then another set of completely different tones with the rythym circuit. It tends to be very bright on the main circuit, even with neck only. It's the only guitar I have that I won't leave the tone control full on for most songs. I rolled it back to around 4-5 for clean rhythm playing. Goofing around, I could get it to sound similar to a mic'd acoustic... yet I can still dial in a good distorted sound too. It has to be the most versatile guitar I've ever owned.

I think it's all about good karma....you sold me a guitar I love and cherish, so these two then came to you, and they make one you really like as wellfullerplast wrote: Thanks everyone! I feel lucky. Both of these were such good scores.

My yellow 59 is also bright like that. I almost always have the tone rolled down some, and I rarely do that on other guitars. The blue guitar definitely got way brighter once I got the right gold guard on it.fullerplast wrote: By the way... I played it for some time after I posted these pics. So is this guitar brighter than the Blonde ash one was with the Scotland guard?

It seems to be maybe a BIT brighter, though the blonde was bright too.
I'll be interested to compare them once the blonde is reassembled....
