Hi,
yesterday I received this email:
(...) In 1960 or '61, my Dad bought a new Jazzmaster custom colored San Marino blue metalflake, yes, that's right, metalflake.....great big chunky flakes custom ordered in Dayton Ohio for me. I still have a picture when I was about 13 or 14 playing it, but you cannot see the chunks of flake in the picture. Long ago I sold it off (probably for one of the many Les Pauls I have owned). Any chance you have ever seen this guitar? I know it is the only one like it I have ever seen and I believe it predates any other custom flake finish I've ever seen......I wish I still owned it.
I haven't. Have you seen this guitar?
cheers
Tom

Tom, thanks for the "heads up", can you reply to the e-mailer that I am sure we'll all keep our eyes on the look out for this JM.
Let's hope someone has seen it.
relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

San Marino was before LPB. A little different looking, but I don't remember it as having huge flakes.
The Pbass Fender did for the '55 Trade Shows was this color also. Had a tinge of Ocean Turquoise in it.
It was most likely the Blue that was later replaced by whatever Detroit auto color Fender called LPB.

wasn't there one in the Scott Chinery Collection labeled as San Marino Blue but it looks nothing like the one on webrocker. It was resold after Scott Chinery died, I do know that but not where it was sold.

the only real San Marino gold guard I've ever heard of, is one that Jim Shine came across years ago...from what I recall it belonged to a guy's dad...the guy was in Jim's school...maybe Jim can chime in....I think Jim almost bought it, but it was too expensive in the end...or something like that...
