Considering Floyd Roses started coming out in the early '80s I'm actually surprised there's not more '70s Strats with them... Although Floyd himself insisted that only he or an authorized installer could put them on for the first couple years so they were generally cleaner than that.

Yeah, paying extra for a predamaged (otherwise) new guitar is idiotic. Fortunately for those relic'ers, there is no shortage of idiotic fakers who like damaged instruments.Rob wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 6:11 pmRelicing -- I get it. But why would someone pay retail for a brand new guitar and immediately inflict a war crime of an artificial checking job upon it ("did the finish checking myself on purpose")? Despite being "very proud of how it turned out," they "barely played it," and now someone should give them allllll their money back to take this damaged guitar off their hands.
Is there anyone out there that would think "Yeah, I could pay $2399 USD to have a brand new one sent to my house, but I'd rather pay $2600 (shipping!) for a used one that fell down a staircase of razors."
But this "Why did you do it? Why did you do this thing to me?" is for Fender itself. Frankly a large bonfire would have been more acceptable than releasing this monstrosity. Behold. The Fender Swinging Arrow (or Swinger/Arrow/Musiclander, whatever they called it) from 1969: eBay Auction

Talk about a frankenstein partscaster! And in this case, neither the body nor the neck are salvageable, even if you find one in mint shape!
$4k for that. I wouldn't pay $125 for that. What? Because it's old? LOL!

There's actually some love for Swingers on this forum (although I'm not really a fan), much the same as there is for Mavericks, that also had that kind of LeftoverPartsCaster vibe about them.PlayWithPride wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2023 12:47 am...Behold. Mavericks kick ass, such a shame Fender's attempt at a reissue was so so wrong. Wrong scale, wrong pickups, wrong vibratoPorkyPrimeCut wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2023 4:27 amThere's actually some love for Swingers on this forum (although I'm not really a fan), much the same as there is for Mavericks, that also had that kind of LeftoverPartsCaster vibe about them.PlayWithPride wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2023 12:47 am...Behold. Because it's one of Fender's rarest guitars. Reportedly only 250 to 600 were ever made.

Re: "Why did you do it? Why did you do this thing to me?"
I’m Im probably the wrong person to be looking at guitars like that because my immediate thought whenever I see a Swinger is “I wonder if the repurposed bodies were blanks or routed for two pickups”. I’d instantly be down on any resale because of a resolder. Don’t know if that’d be enough to end up in this thread, but it feels bad.
On the other hand, if anyone finds one where that wouldn’t be a problem, hit me up
I don’t typically lust after vintage guitars that have seen multiple reissues, but rare stuff like Swingers or even stuff like Duo-Sonic II’s, which were short-lived and slightly different to the more enduring Mustangs, have always tickled me. Who wouldn’t want a Swinger?

I'm a fan. I made a Swinger copy not knowing what to expect. They are really fun though and have a certain charm.
