Jazzmaster - no written date slapboard 1959 - can date simply vanish in time from pencil dated neck?

Discussion of vintage Jazzmasters, Jaguars, Bass VIs, Electric XIIs and any other offset-waist instruments.

Hi jazzmasters,

I saw interesting jazzmaster from 1959. From outside, everything fits (neckplate, tuners, tail piece, etc). The only thing is that I cannot see anything inside. On neck stamp unformtuately the pencil written date M-YY, is not there. It looks like a vintage slabboard (slapboard correctly meets part of the trussrod), but I am not sure if it is usuall that pencil writen date vanish by time.

Some Jazzmasters round that time don't have a pencil date...here's some further info:
1958-April 1959 we see a handwritten pencil date.

April 1959-early 1960. It appears the suspension of handwritten dates started around April 1959. Occasionally we see a date pop up until August, but after that, they are almost never seen. The system seems to reappear in very early 1960, but I am not exactly sure when. I would say that it became a regular item by February or March 1960. This was likely something that transitioned in and out so there are overlaps of the styles going in and out.

1960-early 1962 Handwritten neck dates come back

1962-1972 Rubber stamped codes. In April 1962 we see the changeover from the penciled dates to rubber stamped dates.
Hope this helps a bit :)
