Hey Everyone,
Hope Covid isn't making you go insane, more time to play guitar right?
So I'm in the market for my first vintage Jag. I had started out wanting a 62' but there are none around.
My no.1 guitar is a "AVRI 62' reissue" hence why i thought i wanted a 62. I love the neck on this guitar its slim and all round great, sounds great to. I have since realised this may not be the case on these vintage guitars. Its very hard to find much information on guitar necks from the 60's and the testimonies vary with each person. This is mainly in regards to depth at 1st and 12th.
So i wanted to ask:
How would an AVRI neck compare to a 64 or 66 Jag they are the two I'm currently deciding between. Also feel free to add any information you have regarding neck depth throughout that era.
Thanks!

Re: Neck profiles: 64' vs D&B66'
I think they varied quite a lot however my early '66 D&B Jaguar has a very thin neck. I haven't measured it however it actually feels smaller at the 12th fret than at the 1st, as though the neck flattens out towards the body. Probably the thinnest neck I've ever felt on a vintage Fender.
This '65 Jaguar at Chicago Music Exchange seems to have a similar profile, going by the info provided (though it might be slightly thicker all around): https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/li ... 7/19562692
Searching current/past CME listings is probably quite helpful to get an idea, as they often list the neck measurements.
Here's a few:

1966: https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/li ... 6/26246325
For what it's worth, I really wish mine had the chunkier profile which seems more common on the '64s.

Thanks Zeus!
Ive been trying to find those Listings as well, seems like the 1966 jag is for me, i hope.
Ive made an offer and we shall see how it goes. The other one was a bit To high out of my price range.
Funny how the neck sizes got thinner year by year. I had always Thought it was the other way around but after all the research i see its not the case.

Re: Neck profiles: 64' vs D&B66'
My Nov 64 "transitional" Jag neck (pearl fret board dots, clay side dots, no binding) is approx .8" at the 1st fret and 1.0" at the 12th. I owned a 66 D&B once, but never measured the neck. It was definitely thinner at the 12th than my 64 but I couldn't say by how much. If I remember, it seemed about the same thickness all the way up.

FWIW my late 66 Jazzmaster also has a very thin neck and narrow nut at 40mm. The neck is super thin with a very slight taper. My early 66 Mustang also feels smallish with the same 40mm nut width but feels quite a bit chunkier in terms of profile.
