your paranoia must be weapons-grade.

Thanks. I love the Japanese fender copies from the 70s, of course the Greco manufacturer (Fujigen) ended up making the MIJ Fenders as well. I have a Strat and a couple of Teles but they also made Jazzmasters (pretty rare though):Lo-Fi wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 2:09 amThat Mory Jazzmaster is lovely. The pickguard is possibly the nicest I’ve seen.
I’ve gone down the road of Japanese Gibson “tributes” before (I have a Greco Les Paul Junior double cut which is simply amazing) but had never considered japanese Fender style guitars before.
Your photo sent me down a massive Japanese JM rabbit hole last night and I have some serious GAS now.
How does it compare to your fender?
The Mory has a bit of a backstory - forum member sleepkid is the authority on these, which came from the Moridaira factory in the late 60s. Here's an info thread: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... hp?t=85769
I bought my Mory from him in a sorry state - it had a bad refinish which was then stripped at the cost of some damage, so I decided to smooth it out and refinish it myself. The original neck was long gone but Craig matched it up with an 80s Tokai Strat neck which I also refinished. The end result somehow turned out to be an amazing guitar which plays beautifully. The pickups are full and woody sounding, much better than the MIJ JM ones, and even better than the Rose Korona pickups I put in it as a replacement for the stock ones. It's wired differently and the bridge pickup passes *through* a capacitor which I assume takes off the high end. Whatever it is, it works. I love it although I would probably get the finish redone by a pro if I could justify the expense. Here's the restoration thread: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=100716

Am actually am a big fan of offsets, but I've got a few other projects (both guitar and not-guitar related) that I want to get around to!
