Silly question about Mustang knobs
Does anyone know which way the knobs were originally oriented? Like if there was a "standard" direction they were faced when shipped from the factory?
I've looked at a million vintage shots, but I have to assume most of them have been monkeyed with at some point, because there doesn't appear to be a consensus. Even the catalogs and print ads show different orientations.
Anyone know?

Re: Silly question about Mustang knobs
I just bought another Squier Bullet Mustang to mod, well use as donor guitar really, but back on point.
The knobs were oriented (from player POV) so at 0 black surface facing player, white indicator to the left/neck. As knob is swept to mid, the indicator is opposite the player, pointing down. At maximum, the white indicator points up at the player.
I changed knobs on my first Mustang to numbered style, much easier to read.

Thanks for that. Sounds like they're following the Strat orientation. Still kind of curious about the original Mustangs though?

My '66 Musicmaster II has the lines on the knobs pointing to the output jack when turned up all the way. The guitar is all original, and none of the screws on the guitar look like they've had a screwdriver on them since new... I can't swear that this is how they came from Fender, but I suspect it is.

Who knows if even the factory followed a set pattern?Wil_66 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 8:19 amMy '66 Musicmaster II has the lines on the knobs pointing to the output jack when turned up all the way. It does almost seem that way, given how varied all the photos I’ve looked at are. But at the same time, it’s hard to imagine they would have told the final assemblers “Meh, just do what you want.”?terminalvertigo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 8:25 amWho knows if even the factory followed a set pattern?

Things could have been changed at the stores that the guitars were sold at too.jc808 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 9:24 amIt does almost seem that way, given how varied all the photos I’ve looked at are. For me this is the answer to the question.
Sounds good for me.
But no one can swear, yes.
It starts... when it begins.

Re: Silly question about Mustang knobs
So I have a pretty mint 1966 Jaguar and a very mint 1976 Mustang, and a very un-mint 1964/5 Mustang and this gallery has pics of all knobs full up. No consistency.
