Hi folks,
Dont know if it my post fit here or in the "new" section since it's a half new/half old guitar. If it dont belong here, you can move the post.
15 years ago, a bought a 1966 really beat up Fender Mustang. Didn't know nothing about guitar at the time, so I've been fooled by the seller. The finish was not original, sanded to the wood, pickups and pickguard either. The guitar was not really good and I didnt play it often. After 2-3 years of owning it, I sold it to my father since I needed cash. My father didn't play guitar, the old Mustang sat unplayed in it's living room for the last 12 years or so.
Last summer, with Covid, I had a some spared cash and ask my father if I could claim the Mustang back to restore it. It didn't play well, but I asked my luthier if he could do something playable it. I also decided to make it Kurt Cobain style instead of get the guitar back to it's original color (Olympic white I think). The best 1k$ I put in a gear. Becoming rapidly one of my favorite guitar. It plays and sound so great right now!
What's orginal : Neck, buddy, tremolo, tuners, hardware, switch and pots
New : Finish, Pickguard (spitfire), pickups (Duncan Antiquity II) and string T.

It turned out a little bit darker then Fender Sonic Blue, a little bit more flashy; but I actually like it very much.

Very nice!
Do you have old pics from this Mustang also?
Yes, a 66 Mustang with good setup is great.
Have fun!

The colour is Daphne Blue not Sonic Blue on the Mustang Kurt Cobain played - think yours is the same.
Attached is the Fender Colour Chart - Daphne Blue is 4th on the chart

The old version, before the restauration
The finish and pickguard looks nice on this photo, but they were not. The finish was poorly made and the pickguard was a cheap.
