Interesting that your Gretsch has the Hilo'tron case candy paper, but that model never had them, it kept the Filtertrons.

Well spotted. Maybe they just used generic case candy back in the day. That, or perhaps the guitar had it's case but not the case's contents swapped at some point.

Well, according to a message board that has both Gretsch and Pages in its title, most folks agree that a lot Model 6XXX guitars, around the time mine was built, had filtertrons—and some didn’t. Since hilo-trons were single pole it’s easy to find pics of them all over the web, and they don’t look like mine. Maybe a parts bin thing for all I know. And, like most filtertrons, they have a very low output.

And, as for the case/case candy? I could have well been handed a Gretsch case that hadn’t been shipped with my guitar. I’m sure it sat in that window for a long time before the right ‘sucker’ came along. ;D

No more than an hour old, on the same USAF bed that previously held the Mosrite.

Yeah, I wouldn't split hairs over the pickups. FilterTrons are about as nice sounding a pickup can get IMO. You won as far as I'm concerned.

I gotta get around to putting together a TeleGretsch one of these days...
