Vintage Jag/JM tremolo bar question

Post by Nord » Sat Feb 27, 2021 10:13 am

Did Fender ever make tremolo bars without the collar on the bottom of the tremolo arm?

I've never seen one without the collar and recently bought a "vintage" arm over eBay with no collar. The bottom shows a vintage piece from a Jag and the top is the "new" one without.

Update:
I measured the diameter of both with a digital caliper and the skinnier part was 0.17" on both arms and the little shelf on the bottom was 0.18". It looks to me like the "new" arm in question is worn down so that there's no noticeable shelf, just a taper.
I'd be curious to hear from anybody who has seen vintage arms get worn this way.

The top one is an AV65 reissue.

Yep, they redesigned the arm when the '65 reissues came out. They flare out to combat arm flop. Works pretty well, actually.

Item has been misrepresented if sold to you as 'vintage'.

Thanks for the replies and info!

Yep, this thing was sold as vintage, so it was indeed "misrepresented". Certainly looks the part otherwise (when compared to real vintage arms). I've arranged for a return and refund.
