Possibly nobody here, but I'm sure some wealthy offset-collector would be into buying Jimi's Jazzmaster!

Cool - I have seen pictures of him playing a Jazzmaster before. Unless there is some provenance not sure there is really a way to verefy.

I agree with you. The ad states “Letter of authenticity provided by 2 very prominent and extremely respected members from the musical/guitar world. “ but it’s still hard to be sure.

As far as i’m aware, Hendrix didn’t play Jazzmasters enough to generate that kind of paint wear, which suggests either someone used it extensively after him (if it was indeed his), or it’s fake ageing.

He played it upside down as well so kinda sus the wear pattern is from a righty.

I thought he would string it up correct for him? Shouldn't the nut dictate that?... I know Dick Dale played a right handed guitar left handed and kept the strings the same - but I was really sure Jimi would restring it.

I guess if you’ve got that much to spend on gear, the shipping cost doesn’t matter.

Who knows, maybe it is legit but i’d be wary!

I remember reading some other musicians's account about how he was at Jimi's place (in London?) And Jimi gifted him His Jazzmaster. So I'm sure it kept being played after that, and possibly/probably/plausibly switched back to a right-handed setup too

Jimi definitely owned a Jazzmaster in the late 60s, owned by Steven Seagal now, apparently...

Let's put the proof of provenance aside for a sec. The seller fronts up and says they have it.

Whether or not Jimi was the first or only owner - or if somebody else - or 20 or 500 other people played it/owned it/loved it after him, strung it lefty or righty, does not take away that it (potentially) was his Jazzmaster. Some of you just have to accept that any subsequent history does not change that.

Guitars I sold 30 years ago are still formerly my property. (Though not as valuable obvs! ;D )
This shit still does surface.

Not saying it's fake, but the guitar for sale is clearly a slab bord, while the guitar on the photos of Jimi playing (and several others of him playing Jazzmasters) are veneer. You can tell by looking at the headstock. Also the arm rest looks worn in a very different way.
But hey Jimi owned and played more than one Jazzy IIIRC.
It is well known one of them (definitely noy this one) was on Steven Seagal collection.

From what I've read (admittedly limited), in the early years before he became well known, Jimi was constantly in a cycle of selling his guitars for cash and then struggling to buy another. This also forced him to borrow guitars regularly too. So there are probably many guitars out there that have been either owned or played by Jimi for a very short length of time. It's nuts that someone thinks that (allegedly) one of these guitars is worth so much just because a particular person had a fleeting association with it.
