Guess who found their cloth wires??? :D

I put new leads on the pickups and put them back together. Mine is set up where the short teeth are on the low E side. Then I went to putting all the wires where they go to connect all the parts. I did my best to connect things the way they would be. All the brass plates are grounded to each other. The roller pot plate is grounded to the brass plate there. The pickups are grounded to the plates. The switch plate is grounded to it's brass plate. The jack is grounded to the plate there which grounds the volume and tone. All the switches work as they should. There seems to be one extra hole in the pickguard by the roller. I will probably just add the screw. This isn't a pristine historical piece, so it seems like that is ok. I tap tested the pickups and they seem to work. Only weird thing is when I have the lead switch up which is just the neck alone to jack as normal the pickup sounds louder than when I go through the switches to the lower volume plate. Any ideas why the upper circuit is louder than the lower one? The strangle switch is cool. It cuts a lot of sound. Never had a Jaguar with that noticeable effect before. Oh I also found a brass pickguard plate to go under the guard. It is grounded to the lower control brass plate. That shielding must be super awesome. It is really quiet noise wise.

Here are pictures.

I figured out the issue. The tone pot in this has the capacitor on the middle lug of the pot. In the Jaguar diagram it shows the switch plate going to the first lug of the tone pot so I put the wire there at first. When I looked up diagrams I saw that Jazzies have the capacitor on the middle lug of the tone pot and the output goes to the third leg of the volume pot and not the first leg of the tone pot. I just moved the switch plate wire from the tone lug to the third leg of the volume pot and the output issue is fine now. Both rhythm and lead now have the same volume level when I tap the poles.

It is still shocking how quiet this is. Trully. Without strings and such even with only one pickup on, it is almost silent. Never had that with any single coil guitar. I guess all that metal in it makes a difference. :D Here are some gut pictures. I didn't have the lower control brass plate, so I cut one up from a newer piece I had upstairs. It isn't the same exact size, but it seems to do the trick ok.

Since this green isn't metallic like Sherwood Green, I checked with Will. He says he painted it Volkswagen Green. :) I updated the title and first post to reflect that. :)

Yeah, I was going to mention it didn’t look like any Sherwood green I ever saw, but didn’t want to spoil your fun!

Mike told me it was Sherwood and when I got it, I just went with it. Never had one in that color so I was like "This is sherwood?" LOL

My bad. I could have sworn Will called it sherwood when I got it from him, but I don't want to be putting words in his mouth. I had it long enough that all I can remember is calling it the sherwood jag, but I can't say for certain where the label came from!

I also never had a sherwood guitar and knew there were many shades labeled that way over the years so I assumed it was one of them.

My vintage '66 plunger came in and my Stewmac wood shim so I got right to work. Due to it being painted green at Sesame Street by Will, I decided to name it Oscar. He is keeping it trashy. ;D

Pickups sound great. The mute is cool. First time I have ever used one. The strangle switch works well also. Here is an audio demo. The shielding actually makes a huge difference. Barely any noise.

You did an amazing (and amazingly speedy) job. It sounds amazing. I love those vintage bridge pickups, so full and balanced. That's a keeper.

Jaguar neck pickups are always pretty awesome in my experience, but the bridge pickups are normally not usable. The bridge pickup on this one is bright for sure, but still has bottom end so it is totally usable. I am super impressed by the pickups, the roller pots (the turn supper easily as you saw in the video) and the strangle switch. Never had a Jaguar where I could actually hear the difference that switch does. Not sure why since I followed the schematics, but this one does it better.

The mute is really fun to play with. I can see why it was a thing on these and happy I installed it and didn't just leave it off like you see on a lot of Jaguars.

The "A" neck doesn't feel tiny at all and this has a nice smooth neck. The little vintage frets are new to me since my guitars usually have medium or jumbo, but they work totally fine.

The staytrem bridge intonated just right. It feels solid and I prefer the narrow spacing it has to vintage spacing. I need to test fit some tremolo arms for the tremolo so I can try it out.

I am positive the vintage plunger made a difference in how the mute works. The spring is less stiff from the videos I have seen online so it is easier to click it on or off.

The bass pot on the lower plate almost sounds like a wah pedal. Pretty interesting. I don't normally use a tone pot, but that makes for some interesting sounds.

Yeah, I don't know what it is but my vintage Jags have always had two things in common. 1) A much fuller bridge pickup than I expected, and 2) controls that sounded better across the full range.

Don't know why, but the rhythm circuit has been more useful, and strangle switch too, compared to my reissues and parts guitars. I don't believe in vintage magic or mojo, but something about those parts and tolerances just seems to sound better, and I'm not really sure what it is.
