current market price on 1964 refin Jazzmaster (europe)

Post by otis » Sat Jun 19, 2021 4:22 am

Hi,
I'd like to have your opinions about the current pricing on vintage refinned Jazzmasters in Europe.
I'm selling my '64 but I haven't been following the market for quite a while; I read here prices have been climbing.
The guitar is all original, except a refin in period correct CAR and a refinned neck with matching headstock.
It comes in a Fender vintage reissue case.
Thanks for your help.
Tom

4k-5k USD depending on condition. I wouldn't pay any more but some people might. I've seen re-finned guitars sit and sit and sit at or above $5k USD, the only time they really fly off the shelves IMO is when they're beat up already and a little cheaper than a pristine refin.

Thanks for your reply.
Meanwhile, I found I can not sell my Jazzmaster.
I bonded with it too much and I put a lot of effort in it to get and later to make it how it is now.
Thanks anyway.

Probably a good idea to hold on to it!

Oddly, the refin work and color choice play a factor in the value. Unless the body is refinished to match an original headstock front, it's an unusual choice to refin in CAR because that's one of the most common custom colors sold, along with Olympic White. Historically there has only been a minor bump in value over a sunburst, for CAR.

That said, prices just keep climbing so if you like the guitar it's probably a wise move to hold onto it.

Yes, I know CAR may have been not a wise color choice in terms of resale-value, but I wanted a historically-correct color for a '64.
It also interacts strangely with the tort pickguard in a way I like.
I didn't plan to ever sell my guitar anyhow, and I now know I'm not going to. The idea just felt disastreous.
Anyway, I think my guitar is pretty unique being CAR + tort

that looks great - very wise choice, I reckon, since you did it for YOU, not the next person

That looks amazing! :?

I love CAR+ Tort, what a great combination.

Definitely keep it, if you like the guitar. At that point, the value becomes unimportant.
