If it's genuine, it's a blonde, but; the Jaguar lettering on the transfer looks wrong, and the custom bit is at the wrong angle; and secondly the pickguard is too pale for a blonde. They're darker, almost brown. I'd need more photos, but I'd guess a sunburst refinished, probably.
Could be a blonde though. That's the colour they often end up.

? That’s just not true, I’ve owned at least 4 100% original blond Fenders 1962 or earlier that had the same type of guard, and I’ve also owned a few Oly White ones as well.FrankRay wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 2:02 pmIf it's genuine, it's a blonde, but; the Jaguar lettering on the transfer looks wrong, and the custom bit is at the wrong angle; and secondly the pickguard is too pale for a blonde. When it comes to Fender, especially 1962ish or earlier, never say never - devil is in the details.
Chances are it’s a refin based on the one pic but I have seen original non-matching headstock offsets from 1962 and 1963, you could order whatever you wanted and dealers could as well.

Tort fades to lighter red with UV exposure, that's a pretty well-established phenomenon at this point. Judging by the colour of the finish and pickup covers, this guitar has seen a lot of light, so it would actually be a lot weirder if it had a dark brown guard.

I know I'm nitpicking here, but the neck stamp might say Aug 1 62, but that's August 1962, Neck model 1 = Jaguar, and then a letter for the width of the neck.
So it's not August 1st, but just some time in August 62.
Nitpicking I know.
I'd say OLY white too, but we'd have to see under the pickguard/plates to be sure.

The previous owner tells me that there is isolation foil in the pickup routing which cant be removed without damaging it, which would be a waste really... i will open it nonetheless and take pictures. He also told me that the guitar was bought in new york and the seller said it once belonged to ryan adams

Desert Sand and Desert Fawn, which might be the same, look nothing like that. OTOH, I refinished an old Kay years ago in white, sold it to a friend, and within three years it had yellowed to what you see in the photo. I own a 1970 Tele that for a long time I thought was butterscotch. Nope. Olympic white, just yellowed to a brownish gold.fuzzjunkie wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 5:16 pmCould it be Desert Sand? That was used on Duo Sonics in ‘58-59. Might have still been a custom color available in ‘62, for Tele or Strat at least. If not it might have been refined to match another guitar like a Strat?
