Vintage Duo Sonic - Why there's a dot behind the headstock?

Just curious, can anyone tell me? Tks.

Looks like all 2nd version(59~64) of Vintage Duo Sonics have this little dot.

No CNCs involved back then, but I'm guessing a similar concept to this:

Hole for pin router, doweled. Those holes are in various places on vintage Fenders.

It’s called an indexing hole.

It’s more visible on some models than others. Some models it’s under the tuners and others (notably the Electric XII) it’s loud and proud on the back of every headstock
