NGD 1978 Jazzmaster

Post by powerdroid » Fri Sep 17, 2021 11:44 am

Now this was unexpected! Watching the prices get higher and higher lately I kinda gave up on the idea of getting a vintage Jazzmaster, something that´s been on my mind since the nineties, and well they never really come up for sale over here! Thinking I´d be better off just partsmastering and building my own..

And then this showed up locally, a beautiful ´78.

Went to try it out, sounded great, everything worked, neck felt nice and round, not TOO heavy at 4kg so... Here we are. It´s got some sort of ´boutique noiseless´ pickups in it, but originals were included. It sounds fantastic, and as I didn´t know they were not the originals when trying it out they stay for now. Loving the looks (yes.. should be black knobs but these are fine ) and the feel.

Just really really really happy with it!

Lovely! I nearly pulled the trigger on a '77 recently but decided against going to try it and tempting myself.

Looks nice and clean, congrats
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Now I'm curious, where are you located?
I sold it here in Germany (after bringing it with me from Mexico) about 4 years ago.
Enjoy, it's a good one!

Whoah that´s insane! I´m in Finland, got it from a relatively new store here, they said it´s from one of the owners. I got the (ex-Pat) case with it!
So strange that it´s fitted with new pickups again? I´ll let it be and just play it for now, tempted to put the originals back there though!

But I am very happy to find this out, a proper OSG-history! Such a small world jeeeeshhhh! The fact that it´s from Mexico is even better, my wife is from Córdoba! no mames!

Congrats! That grain looks gorgeous and it's cool that it isn't too heavy.

Yeah that’s a pretty one for sure. I’d be clamoring for a nice piece of tort and some witch hats to put on it myself but I know a lot of people like the black guard look of the latter originals. Seems like yr happy with it and I know how it feels to give up on something you want really bad only to have it fall into yr lap so I couldn’t be happier for you :)

:P yeah it's a small world!
I remember picking it up at the TAPO central bus station in México DF, and this lovely old man who'd had it for a long long time. I also have a '76 Jag here.

Saludos!

Tasty! What do you reckon the weight is? Never tried a 70's JM. 😤
Love it how they were phasing out the witch hats on these.

i did go down the route of building my own 70's style jazzmaster BUT i would still want a real blackguard one day.

Dongs of Sevotion! Great album-- has the funniest song 'dress sexy at my funeral', always cracks me up.

Beautiful guitar too!

Incredibly clean - it looks like it was just finished yesterday. Cool to see it has forum provenance too.

Nice! I suppose a quick google could have served me well there, rather than extrapolating from what I could see in the pic.
