1969 Musicmaster neck same as Jaguar?

Post by billboneys » Thu Aug 25, 2022 10:25 am

I have a partscaster Jaguar with a 1969 Musicmaster neck on it. It fits great on my MJT body and looks super cool. I don't love the neck though. Thin width and thin frets. Is this the same neck that would have been on any vintage Jaguar? Mine neck says 21Mar69B Thanks for any input.

that '69 era of MM typically has a Mustang style neck.
it's generally quite similar to that era of Jaguar, in terms of size and feel.
there are cosmetic differences, for sure. the spacing of the fret dots is different. maybe the shape of the headstock, and sometimes the rosewood boards seem different, too.

i have an April 1965 neck on my original Jag, and find it to be more full and rounded than the
early 70's MM that i played long ago. that's the only direct comparison i can make.
but the '65 Jag necks seem to be that way among later Jags, perhaps.

I had a MM neck on my Creston, and it's tiny compared to my JM Jag's.

Right. I was just asking if this is similar to any Jaguar neck or is this specifically a Muscimaster neck.

In general, 60's "B" necks are pretty awesome with tiny frets, yes, but with amazing neck profiles.

Usually, short scale B necks have a narrower heel at around 54mm vs the typical 56mm you'd see on 25.5 scale necks...

60s and 70s necks can be a little all over the place in terms of shortscale specs as there's often some wiggle room on MM, DS and Mustang pockets. They werent designed with tighter tolerances in mind like a strat or tele.

70s Strats and Teles have just as much wiggle-room as any other Fender in that period from what I've seen and played 😂 they were almost all pretty wild hahaha

Yeah, I know... my MM bass plays amazingly but the neck pocket looks stupid (I actually like that quirk). I could probably rest my thumb on whatever real estate is left on the neck pocket.
