Jag and jazzy - were they used in recordings of Experience or BOG?

Jag and jazzy - were they used in recordings of Experience or BOG?

Post by Guitarman555 » Mon Sep 19, 2022 10:50 am

I am wondering, if Jimi used Jag and Jazzy on his recording of Experience or BOG albums of Jimi Hendrix? I know that he used Jazzy extensively when playing with Little Richard, I saw a pic of Jimi with Jazzy and Jag during his solo career. But it would be interesting to know which songs he actually recorded with offsets...

Fire was recorded with the Jazzmaster. Not sure about any others, but I read somewhere once that Fire was a JM.

Yes, I have also read about Fire, I am wondering about other songs, I am sure that he didn´t use only strats, there are so many guitars in songs on Electric Lady Land and aftermortal BOG songs, that it would be boring to use only strats.

I wonder if Chewbacca ever did a solo on an SGizzy
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

I have feeling that he used Duosonic even before he borrowed Jazzmaster for touring with Little Lichard, it was still before his solo career. I don´t think that he used it after. Duosonic was a students guitar and I think one of reason for using it was it was not expensive..

Offset without upper switches routing. Surely a Musicmaster?

As has been said already, he played a JM on “Fire” (he even used it live for that song sometimes). That’s all I know of. He played a Tele for the “Purple Haze” solo. He did own a black CBS Jag (given to him by Brian Jones), but it doesn’t seem like he really played it. In the studio, he mainly played Strats, but also used a Flying V, SG Custom, and a couple of Les Pauls, supposedly.

Yeah, I have read that Telecaster was borrowed from his Experience band bassist for the solo played with Roger Mayer´s Octavia. But I would think that he used many more types of guitars, can´t beleive that albums, especially Electric Lady Land and Band of Gypsys stuff, loaded with 5 guitars in each song would be only strat based.

Interesting thread. Those Strats take up too much of the limelight! Incidentally, an ex-colleague of mine in Kent, England, knew Noel Redding. My Dad regrets never going to see the Experience when they played the Chislehurst Caves outside London too (where you'd also see psychedelic groups like the original Pink Floyd etc.)

This a bit like telling my children that I regret not going to the Auditions that turned out to be for Busted.

I could have married Emma Willis. Although that wouldn’t be her name.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Fwiw, Band of Gypsys is pretty well documented. All the material was from four sets on two consecutive days at the Fillmore, and I’ve never heard of or seen anything other than the same black Strat for most of it, with his Flying V showing up for a couple of songs.

To my knowledge, there’s never been any speculation about other guitars on that record, because the performances were filmed, photographed, and attended by thousands.

Sure live BOG gig recorded as official album is no mystery. Anyway, I am talking about BOG studio recordings, most of them were released after Jimi death. There are so many guitars per song. If you just listen studio version if Ezy rider, etc. This is what I would be curious about, what guitars are those. Idon't believe it is only a nix of strat, sg, flying v and lespaul.
