I mean, it doesn't look metallic, so that rules out Candy Apple Red. Definitely isn't Fiesta Red. That only leaves Dakota Red. I've never seen Dakota go that shade. So I'm leaning toward refin.

My thoughts were exactly the same as yours and agree it looks dark for dakota. It looks like a pale undercoat which makes me lean towards orginal factory custom colour. Wouldn't a refin be applied over whatever colour it was?

I think its most likely Honduras Maroon which is a Chevrolet colour from the 50s/60s, it looks identical to my 1961 Jazzmaster here



Which is probably a refin and I'd imagine this Jag is too. Really cool though, I've only ever seen one other guitar in this colour before and it was another 1961 JM

I actually ran across this video earlier today and wondered the same thing, opened OSG and saw this post. Definitely an interesting color.
