Yeah I could, but I have heard several stories about the dealer, and I know from my emails with him, that he really doesn't want to be in contact with me, so to be honest I would not like to get in the store In person. I mean, he of course owns the guitar (maybe still) and he has switched the guards around, and therefor I really don't have any more right to the guard than him. Which I of course understand and accept, but my problem with him is just, that he via. telephone said we could do the switch, but then just ghosted my, besides from 1 angry email he wrote 1 year ago.

I think it would be cool to have both guitars get their original guards back. Have you tried looking through applicable hashtags on Instagram to see if the owner has posted a photo of it there? #1959Jazzmaster might prove fruitful.

Geez, this brings back a cringey memory. I had a '59 with the original tweed case, and a tort guard. I was in a band project, and I was the bassist for this project but the guitarist who had been with us for about 6 or so mos asked if he could borrow it for a studio project. So like an idiot 17 yr old I said yes. Never saw it again. When I called to get it back, the guy just said "someone took it" so I reported it stolen.
I found it 18 years later (or at least the body) on eBay as the wear patterns were very distinctive and I did recognize the serial number. I contacted the local PD and they were able to forward me the police report and sure enough, the serial number matched. So I found the body, and the # plate on the same guitar. The neck didn't look right but that could have been wear. So I contacted the police and sent them the link to the eBay listing. Excited thinking I'd get it back, the officer told me the statute of limitations was only 5 years so I saw it again slip from my fingers. It sold for about $8,500

I'm no attorney, but I believe the statute of limitations only applies to the number of years a person could be
charged with the crime of theft. Not about recovering stolen property.
There is no statute of limitations on recovering your stolen property, provided that you have a written police report, as far as I'm aware.
Hate to think that cop did you dirty, but it seems like it. What a sad tale overall!

If you happen to find a federal statute, or maybe a FL statute, I'm not even sure how I'd track down that particular guitar ever again. My eyes about popped outta my head and I was super hopeful for about a day. I'm not even sure I still have access to that email address where they sent me a copy of the police report :/

Is it Guitarhunter.dk ? I’ve been in that shop. Had a gorgeous flamey neck 64 JM in at the time. Price was out of my league!

Nope, it's not. Might as well just say it, since the owner anyhow doesn't want to talk to me. The store is KMC, and the guitar is gone from their site, but not listed as sold, just removed. Have no faith, that the owner is gonna contact me anytime soon...

I wouldn´t care about the gold guard. I have heard that gold guard was not doing a good job for the sound. But I have not verified it.

I would venture a guess and say it does impact tone at least slightly as the metal around the pickups vs the cellulose guard or plastic guard IMO would affect the signal around the pickups. IIRC the reason CLF wanted the full guard as aluminum had more to do with shielding. However the anodized coating would wear off within the warranty period so the originals are very tough to find. I remember reading or hearing a LONG time ago when I had my (now stolen) 59, that there was concerns about it grounding out and zapping the player but I have no idea of the validity of that claim. Just something I recalled hearing.
