Whatever happened to the dude who got all that vintage stuff stolen?

Post by N0_Camping4U » Thu Apr 11, 2024 10:56 am

I can't find who it was. We had a topic on it. He was on Youtube talking about it. Some older dude who got his storage locker broken into and stole a shit load of rare/valuable gear. I remember there being a lot of Fenders.

Did he ever find his stuff? I remember posting for him to post the pics he had of rare stuff for us to at least see it lol

The Robby Z collection. Many of his guitars have been recovered.

He keeps a very basic website tracking the full list of stolen guitars and serial numbers. It's a little out of date (meaning, there are several recovered guitars on here that still show them as stolen), but it gives you a good idea.

I still check this website anytime I'm considering a vintage offset, just to make sure it's not on the list

Robbie Z?

A lot has managed to come back to him, in dribs and drabs. I've seen a lot of the recovered ones for sale (by him) as I think he's decided to reduce the collection as it comes back.

There's still a LOT missing though

Man, that guy loved his Jags and Jazzes. I hate people who steal instruments.

I wanna hear about the thief getting caught but it never happens. With the SY guitars, like someone sold it on eBay or whatever. How hard would it truly be to try and go backwards from there? Obviously a tall order but you’d think there’d be some kind of way

Usually the thief unloads everything immediately to somebody who knows their stolen and stuff can change hands a couple times before it starts hitting the public market (usually far enough removed from the thief by that point they don’t even know the guitars are stolen).

So the thieves rarely face prosecution unfortunately.

Same. It's always done with absolutely no understanding of or care for how much a player can bond with their instrument. I had to go through a lot of Gibsons and other guitars to get one I feel that way about so it would feel like a family member being kidnapped if it went missing.

Also the title of this thread reminds me of No More Heroes to be honest.

Try singing along.

Whatever happened to
The dude who
Got all that vintage stuff
Stolen?

CHORUS
Whatever happened to - that dude?

😂
"High yella high red high blue she blew
High Ella high Ella Guru"

- CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, "Ella Guru"

There was an ad from Robbie Z in the Oct 23 Vintage Guitar mag selling 2x 64 jags and a 59 JM along with a couple of other guitars.
