I had it on loan for a few weeks while I decided if the guitar was for me (and if I could afford it). I paid my friend last night so I can now legit talk about a NGD...
And so here it is! It's a 1966 Lake Placid Blue Jaguar with a dots and bindings neck. The body was refinished in its original colour in nitro in 1992 (I have the receipt for the refin), and despite the bad lighting in the photos the body refin is a perfect match for the original headstock paint.
The pickups are ferocious! They have a wicked bite, but with a little amp compression (I use a Broadcast pedal into a 1973 Princeton Reverb) there's a ton of sustain. I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's a super-versatile guitar as the up-front attack isn't usable for everything, but it's a really fun guitar to play, and I love how different it is to my other older Fenders. I was surprised at how different it is tonally to my Jazzmaster.
The bridge has been replaced with a Staytrem but I have the original bridge. I've got a Mastery on a Jazzblaster build I put together a few years ago. I'm looking forward to doing a bridge shoot-out between the original, the Staytrem and the Mastery.
The guitar came with a vintage blonde tolex case lined in orange. I'm reasonably certain that it's not the original case for the guitar but I assume it's from the 60s. If anyone can help me identify the case I'd be really grateful. I can post more pics of it.
Needless to say I'm really, really pleased with the guitar. I haven't put it down since I got it.
