Oops, I guess I'm doing vintage again....

Post by JSett » Thu Apr 03, 2025 12:30 am

Just ordered this absolute beast from Rich Tone here in the UK after haggling a better deal over the phone. Some of you might remember my deliciously thrashed Lake Placid Blue one from a few years ago that I stupidly sold and did try to buy back (unsuccessfully). I had my eye on a few different ones but I have a weird weakness for Antiqua that I've never actually scratched so this should do it:

Pretty sure the Victoria Luggage OG cases weren't croc-skin'd but maybe this was one of the UK-only provided cases that a lot of Fenders imported in the 60s had? I dunno, it's cool for sure but will immediately go into the attic anyway :D After my 2-out, 1-in I'm doing with this I'll just have my Tele, Jazzmaster, the Coronado, my Gibson Acoustic and my Jag bass...which I think is probably the limit of how far I can cut down before I feel deprived of options.

It's due for delivery tomorrow but I'm not sure anyone will be in to take it so it might end up being delayed until next week (which obviously sucks for impatient gear hounds like me).

Makes me kind of want to try and thrash out some kind of a deal for the black vintage one local to me (supposedly not for sale).

Sweet!

I always assumed they were hardtails, I never realised some of these came with tremolo's! Looks very cool, and not unlike a Mustang trem.

Yep that's a stunner, definitely. It's rad how big it says Antigua on the pickguard!
Excited to hear it to be honest, I'm really not familiar with how Coronados actually sound.

They sound like a bright hollowbody electric. The fact they're maple, rather than mahogany, add to that and the Dearmond pickups give it a twang. They're great for spaghetti western type sounds from the bridge and a really nice pretty clean on the other settings. You know the main riff from "Mr Brightside"? That's a Coronado.

I'll do a video when it lands anyway and share here.

I'm pretty certain I red it was the first model to have the finish - something about covering up burns at the edge of the wood or something? But yeah, I agree, I think it suits them perfectly.

Almost everything is for sale if you ask enough and flash enough cash :D

It was an optional extra. Having had one with it the first time, I was sold on making sure I had the sae this time.

Lovely! An antigua Coronado is one of those guitars I really want. I have heard mixed opinions on how they sound though? How do the pickups sound to you?

It's not here yet so I can't say what these particular ones are like but if they are like my previous ones they kinda sound like a low-powered Gretsch Dynasonic.

That’s awesome. The only Coronado I’ve ever played was a XII about a decade ago and I thought it was awesome. Meant to bid on a very very cheap 67 Coro II on ebay last night and entirely forgot to. Hope this rocks!
