9 string jazzmaster

Post by weed_killer » Thu Apr 15, 2010 1:44 pm

I found a clear picture of a 9 string jazzmaster, played by the guitarist in a dutch band called Dragonfly

Has anyone ever played one?

Four people playing one at once: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vnc78TM5MxQ - actually a 10-string.

Search 'tielman' here and you'll find loads more.

my 63 is of indo pedigree, but it came without the extra tuners when i got it.
i had the holes plugged too soon to give it a try with extra strings on.
Nobody exists on purpose.

Yeah, saw that when I found the pic. It's Crazy!

I've often thought of getting a Jazzmaster and making it a 10 string.....

had a '63 Jaguar that had been a 9 string, but the holes had already been plugged when I got it. I didn't know about the Indo-rock mods at the time and thought it was more a blues thing. Big Bill Bronzy (sp) and some other Delta blues players used 9-strings.

I remember reading an article about a European nine-string craze during the 60s, lots of modded Fenders as well as some converted twelve-strings. Vox, for one, put a nine string into production - you can buy a repro from PGW. Can't recall it having to do with the blues but it's likely a source as any.

so im guessing the deal is that these 9/10 strings have the top 3 or 4 treble strings octaved and the bass strings just standard? Kind of ingenius - using the stock Fender grub screw saddles to accomodate more than one course of string. wonder what it'd sound like!

that actually looked really cool @ first look... like a little galaxy inlaid into the headstock.
