is this a baritone guitar?
hey there!
a guy i know is offering to sell me this old guitar he found somewhere, and i believe it's an old teisco or so. he sent me some pics and i don't know if it's a baritone or not... it's got only 20 frets but still looks quite big.
any way i could know for certain without "raising too many flags" for him? thanks!
Pat.

Can you find out what the scale-length is?

I'd be very surprised if it was. I think it's just the short neck that's misleading. I've had a very similar guitar and that was standard scale.

There were some similar guitars produced that had (approx) 27" scales, and were indeed able to do B-B baritone tuning. Just hard to tell from that pic.

Measure the diameter of the strat knob in the picture for scale (I guess it's standard size?), then measure the distance 12th fret-bridge and calculate the actual distance based on the knob size. It may just be inaccurate enough to completely send you into the woods .

Not quite. The one's on Smith's JM are a bit wider (not the location of the polepiece screws):Pacafeliz wrote: ps: that's the robert smith jazzmaster pickups, right?
I had the exact pickups (but with black tops) in my 1966 Kingston (Kawai), reproduced here by MUTT GUITARS:
I'll bet they do sound great though!
