'62 shielding, cannot rotate this picture at the moment. Could it stand for Lil(l)ian?

58/59 Jazzmaster (pots are 58, serial number is 59)
Looks like "Esper" was having an "E" only day:
...and then a kind of mysterious simple "L R" in the neck pickup cavity (or something above the L?):
The foam pads were broken in half, so no idea what's on the bottom of the pickups if anything.

Here is a 'EP' day from Esper. This is on the back of a 66 Mustang pickguard. Don't know what the 4 relates to, is this the month perhaps? The pick-up is from a different guitar, a 65 or 66. Anyone tell me what the 8 means? Is this a month or maybe the same as the 8 used on the neck code?

Re: Under the Hood of Pre-CBS Offsets... (Vintage Markings)
I've seen that 8 a lot on student models and always associated it with the short scale neck code (as you suggest). But recently I saw a post on TDPRI where a guy put a pic of his Tele neck up that had the written 8 on the bottom of the heel (between the bolt holes). He asked about it, and a couple more guys put up pics of theirs too with the 8. So I can only guess it's an employee number or something?

Thanks for the response. That makes sense. I have seen one with a 9 (which fitted the neck code theory) but then also a 14 (which didn't). Employee code may be the answer.

My '66 Tele has 13 written on the bottom of the bridgeplate. I wonder if they started using numbers instead of names/initials in the CBS era? Maybe the company got big enough where numbers made more sense? Who knows!
