TORTURE!!

So here's the deal ... I'm pretty sure that this Jaguar is going to be pretty damn great when it's re-fretted and cleaned up. And it's pretty much the Jaguar I've been holding out for for years.

At the same time that Marlin Burst refin '66 has popped up and the seller seems to be reasonable in terms of what he's willing to take for it.

Annnd I've been working out a trade deal for another refinished '66 B&B Jazzmaster that might be pretty reasonable too.

Beautiful old offsets are like buses ... none for ages then several come along at once!

The funny thing is that because I've been trimming down the gear pile, and at least two of these will be 80% straight trades, I could actually end up with the Jaguar and the blue refin Jazzmaster without having to spend much cash at all. I guess that's the plus side of having been a gear hoarder for the past few years.

The store owner who has the Jaguar was of the opinion that the other '66 Jazzmaster (the marlin burst refin) would be a pretty good buy as well... I guess if I ended up with two '66 JMs one of them would find it's way onto OSG before too long, so in that respect at least it might bring some new offsets into the family.

And that ladies and gentlemen is what we call SELF enabling in the addiction business. :fp:

Oh wow! :?

Nice one, Kev!
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

That is one sweet looking Jag!!!

...and whenever the frets are shot I see it as a good sign...it's been played for good reason! :)

I have big hands, so the A neck would be a deal breaker for me, but if you can get along with it, then I say this could be a great deal! 8)

ok, back to drinking beer! :D

I've big hands, but short-ish fingers. I know it's hard to judge without strings, but the neck did feel nice in my hand (and made me feel a lot better about the A neck Jazzmaster I've been talking about trading for). To be honest the neck felt a lot like my SG around the nut ... and the 355 is pretty skinny in terms of nut width too, so I guess it should be okay.

Enjoy those beers Yannis ... I'm laid up this evening with The Dose that's been doing the rounds of my friends and family lately, so I'm self medicating with OSG and Low Winter Sun on dvd. And beer. Which is unwise.

I know, great name right? I used to have a Mustang that had the name 'Lester Steele' written on the interior case lining. Ron Joy beats that I think...
Nothing beats Lester Steele.

Apologies for the crappy iPhone photos ... I should have turned the flash off, but I was too busy chatting to check the photos until I'd already left the store.

As you can see though, it's completely greened out. And it's filthy! It needs a proper clean up ... but look past the grime and it looks damn fine to me.
This is a ridiculous find. The stuff of dreams. GO FOR IT!!!

Sometimes you got to hop on those opportunities as they present themselves. If this Jag's a-calling, you should do it. That yellowed LPB is something else. Almost emerald.

It ain't scored yet! Hopefully I'll be able to work out a decent deal for it, but first I've got to see how it turns out when it's back in playable condition.

And that Jazzmaster!
