She started out as a sunburst 2002 MIJ JM. At great expense, someone in Japan stripped, refin'd and reliced it. Japanese Danocaster, perhaps? I bought it off a forumite for a VERY good price. I added a Mastery, Staytrem and Novak PAF's and now she is my main stage guitar. The level of detail is amazing. She has fooled quite a few vintage collectors and I think it feels just like every vintage JM I've played. Nice worn in neck and a very light resonant body.kosmonautmayhem wrote:What's the story on your JM?RIORIO wrote:Yep! She is my baby. Looks and sounds amazing.

!!!!!!!TRADEMAGEDDON 2014 Update!!!!!!!
So I've mentioned that there are also two Jazzmasters in the offing as well as this Jaguar.
Well the good news is that the deal was sealed on Jazzmaster no.1 ... a refinished B&B '66 now in Sonic Blue. It should be making it's way over to me later this week, with my beloved ES-330 going to Scotland. I will miss the 330 ... it's been a faithful guitar even though I haven't had it as long as some others. But an original B&B or D&B Jazzmaster has been at the top of my want list for as long as I've been playing, so it was an easy choice to make.
As for the marlin burst refin '66 with the 'headstock issues' ... my offer is still pending on that one. Hopefully I'll get some time with the Blue one before I make a final decision on the marlin burst. The positive of the marlin burst is that it's a B neck (the blue one is an A), but it'll cost a few hundred to put right those headstock issues (gotoh or modern tuners fitted, so it'll need plugs, new tuners and a refinish of the headstock facing to deal with the early 60s spaghetti logo decal, which is ... unfortunately ... under the lacquer) as I wouldn't trust myself to do the work. But hey - it's a pretty looking marlin burst and it's good tort, so it might be worth the effort in sorting it out.
More on the blue baby this week. More on the Jag in about two weeks (post refret/nut and clean up). Possibly more on the marlin burst this weekend.

That Jag is insanely cool--and I usually don't even like green. Congratulations on the find! And I can't wait to see the sonic blue Jazzmaster!

Trade deal on the sonic blue concluded. It's on it's way too... should have it Thursday.
Here's the wee beastie itself:

The seller is an old school OSG-er too - and a total gent to deal with. If you're looking at this Andrew, thanks again (especially for sending it out so quickly!).
Offer on the marlin burst '66 refin here in Ireland is still pending.

Nice! I've seen that Sonic Blue '66 for sale! It's a hot guitar. Curious what you'll think abou the a-neck.
(And yes. Andrew is a true gent to deal with. )
Any teaser pics of this Marlin-burst you speak of?

Re: 1965 D&B LPB Jaguar ... all greened out (pics pg.2)
I reckon that Jazzmaster had a few lurkers watching it alright!
This Jaguar is an A neck ... and although it wasn't strung, the neck felt nice in hand and it didn't feel pencil thin. An A neck is about the same width as a Mosrite neck and I've never had an issue with a Mosrite nut ... only with their skinny profiles. Rickenbacker nuts can also be skinny (somewhere between a Mosrite and a Fender I believe) - and again, no issues there. I have more of an issue with thin necks ... and a '66 should have a mid-60s thick/full C shape, so that should be fine.
I'll stick up a photo or link to the marlin burst later on.

I was referring to the Jazzmaster's A neck but like to hear all manner of comparison.Despot wrote:I reckon that Jazzmaster had a few lurkers watching it alright!

Re: 1965 D&B LPB Jaguar ... all greened out (pics pg.2)
Sorry ... keep forgetting that what I'm thinking doesn't always get typed!
I was glad to get a chance to get my hands on an A neck before I made a decision on Andrew's Jazzmaster, just to convince myself that it's going to be usable for me. I was pretty sure it would be fine, but the dimensions of the Jaguar neck and how it sat in my hand was the final nudge I needed to take a chance on the Jazzmaster. That's what I was thinking in my head when I typed the last post...
Tradegeddon 2014 is starting off quite nicely though, don't you think...

!!TRADEMEGEDDON 2014 UPDATE!!
This is getting a bit silly now.
Blue Jazzmaster is on the way. The latest is that my offer on the marlin burst '66 has been accepted as well.
I can't copy the photos from the website, but here's the link:
http://www.adverts.ie/electric-guitars/ ... er/4586135
As you can see, it's got issues ... but nothing too extreme. The refin looks pretty decent. The main issues are with the headstock (which has been refinished with an early '60s logo applied, as well as modern tuners and an extra/unnecessary string tree). But 200 euro will see that put right (tuner holes plugged and re-drilled for Klusons, new vintage tint lacquer applied to the headstock and a proper '66 decal applied over the lacquer). And then it'll look a lot better.
Absolute worst case scenario and the marlin burst looks worse in person than in the grainy photos I can get this refinished in whatever colour I choose without hurting the value ... so in other words pretty much perfect for my purposes. Oh - and unlike the blue one, it's a B neck.
Now to snag the Jag when it's finished (trades only) and my work this January will be done.

All are just stunning. I really like that Marlinburst one, in all honestly. The tuners and extra string tree are slight a detraction, but not much. Contrats.

Wow! That Marlinburst is way cooler than I thought. Its more silverburst than what I thought would be a teal green with a lighter center.

Re: 1965 D&B LPB Jaguar ... all greened out (pics pg.2)
Why thank you gentlemen.
I reckoned that given the price of 60s Jazzmasters here, and that a 'straight' '66 would go for about 3,500 to 4,000 in sunburst, that price was alright. Best case scenario, all I have to do is sort out the headstock and away we go. Worst case scenario, and the finish looks rough then I'll strip it and finish it in a rarer custom colour like shoreline gold or charcoal frost. It couldn't hurt resale value given that the 'damage' (i.e. refinishing it in the first place) has already been done. In fact, if it was a good quality refinish it would at least hold it's value, if not appreciate a bit over time. I mean, it's a B&B Jazzmaster ... apart from the CIJ reissue with the wrong headstock, Fender don't reissue these.
I can't wait to get my hands on the blue one too.
But this does mean that I'm going to have to clean house. If both the blue one and the marlin burst play/sound great, then either the AV or Inca Master will have to go ... just on general principles if no other reason. I didn't expect both of these deals to come off (I was hedging my bets with the marlin burst, hoping that the deal for the blue one would work out). Now that they both have, I'm a bit taken aback to be honest!
