Old Musicmaster Bass re-built into baritone/Vi type thing

Cool conversion in theory, but botched execution that the sales talk tries to turn into selling points.

I first thought "Ah, this Tele bridge is ugly but it doesn't warrant inclusion in this thread" until I saw the headstock :'(

That Musicmaster Bass conversion is a classic example of sellers doing something I've really come to hate in the last year or so - spinning every negative as a positive, like people owning up to dropping an instrument and then claiming "the dings add character, kind of like a relic" or some other nonsense.

Reverb Seller Using Spin wrote:"The dowels on the headstock are so bush league that they are actually sort of cool."

I'm going to speak colloquially for a second: nah mate, they're totally shit, STFU because you're bothering me. 😂
2003 CIJ Fender Jaguar, sunburst (SJAG-3n neck, SHR-1b bridge, 500K lead circuit pots/speed knobs, Mastery bridge, Buzz Stop, Squier JM JM vibrato plate, modified whammy bar)

2022 MIM Fender Meteora, cosmic jade (top mounted input jack added)

People seem to equate janky hackery with "relicing" when they're not remotely the same thing. I would never consider a poorly modified '50s or '60s instrument as an inspiration for relicing becuase it's not things that would happen to the instrument without the express intent of causing it. Even a heavy relic should look like things happened to that instrument because it was being loved, not abused.

Very well put; I'm not into buying something that's had relic treatment, personal preference, but I agree the ethos should be it looks as realistic as possible and in places which would get worn, like belt rash on the back, arm wear on the top contour, finish cracking/checking around certain edges where the guitar would be in the stand etc.

Or even believable accidents, like dropping a screwdriver when setting intonation or something. Lord knows I've done that to non-relic'd guitars... Thus reclicing them. LOL
