Even more? Why is that. Never heard the tuning was unstable. You sure that's not internet folklore?
i learned how to set up a floyd rose and let me tell you, the things are not as stable for tuning as people say.
Well you said "even more", which means it would be unstable to begin with, even before the floyd rose... Is it? I've Just never heard that before...

Apparently, it's a Les Paul jr. from 1955.

Are there any pics from the back? I'm curious, wouldn't a Floyd stick out past the back of something this shallow?

I didn't see pics of the back. Typically, Floyd roses are installed much deeper into the body, in a specially made cavity. The Floyd Rose in this guitar is placed quite high. It probably doesn't even float!

That's the only other pic of it I could find.

...but then I found this. Apparently this one is a Gibson Custom Shop creation. Coincidence? Or was the person who modded the '55 trying to copy this ?

I work with a guy who has a similar 56 Jnr that had a Floyd Rose and had been sprayed black and contoured. He bought it 30 years ago for £99 and has just spent £300 getting the headstock repaired and filling the cavities and setting back up as a hardtail with a humbucker. It looks incredible, especially for the outlay

That ‘59 Les Paul looks like it’s one of the 2010 Nashville flood victims.

Or got fished out of the Mississippi.

My favorite part is how they covered the “Made In China” on the back of the headstock.

Great guitars are made in China every day of course, and these are becoming more sought after since they are out of production, but clean ones are $900 tops.
