I think the Jag and the VI were meant to be "all things new", they introduced shorter scales, weirdo switching, the bigger headstock and the new decal, the rest of the lineup kept the spaghetti look for 2 years after that.FenderBob wrote:Little Fender Trivia. Why is the Fender Jazzmaster kept in spaghetti font until 1964 or so, but the Fender Jaguar had the Newer font starting in 1962?

I've read that Leo hated wasting, so since he a large stash of earlier spagh. jazzmaster decals left, he decided to use them all before switching to the bigger font.

If so, he must have had Strat, Tele, Precision and Jazz Basses too, since they all stayed spaghetti until 1964. That can't be true anyway, since they changed the patent numbers on the Strat decal in 1963, but kept the spaghetti logo.FenderBob wrote:I've read that Leo hated wasting, so since he a large stash of earlier spagh. jazzmaster decals left, he decided to use them all before switching to the bigger font.

↑↑↑ Wow, never seen this on blue before!!!
As per Jim Shine "On darker custom colors such as Charcoal Frost Metallic and black, an all gold version of the CBS Jazzmaster decal was used to contrast the darker color. This decal resembles a Coronado, or Fender Kingman logo. It features 5 patent numbers. "

I hadn't either! It's an April 66 stamped neck. I personally think the gold on LPB is ridiculously sweet. Interestingly the neck pocket has "SHOW" written in it.

Re: Vintage Offset Decals
Awesome. I wonder if that was a 1966 NAMM guitar. The NAMM show was in July that year, so the neck date would be consistent with that. It's certainly the kind of color scheme that one could see Fender bringing to a show. If so, that would be worth knowing. I wonder how you could find that out?dawgwood9 wrote:Check it.FEXII wrote:Do you have a photograph of the neck pocket we can see please?dawgwood9 wrote: I hadn't either!
