Thanks for sharing the video. Oxalic acid did pop up in my search - I'm going to give it a try - though I'm going to wait until after I remove the finish so that the finish doesn't act as a mask for the acid.DrQuasar wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 12:12 pmMamie Minch on guitar restoration: oxidation chemistry
I remembered this video re: rust removal. I don't know if oxalic acid would work but maybe oxidation is oxidation?

Re: Triple Awful Offset Restoration - Teisco, Stiles, Homemade Weirdo
I believe it will - I'm going to replace the headstock piece that has worm damage with some wood harvested from a stray Teisco, add some (maple, I think) wood to fill the old truss bar channels, and use a more modern truss rod. The guitar is really ugly now, but most of the damage to the neck is from the glue separating and rust staining. I think once it is glued back together it will look much more trustworthy.

I’ve taken rust stains off wood with oxalic acid, it’s effective. One tip is to wipe it off just before you think it’s done, because it keeps going a little!

Is the Stiles by any chance made in Italy? The body shape, fretboard and neck all look very Galanti Grand Prix but with a different hardware loadout.

After roughing out the ABS cement patches:
And after some polishing, the patch is hard to see and appears to be sticking well:

Obligatory, I would just rock it as is post.
I’m really looking forward to seeing what you do with Teisco. That neck is so far gone.

I heard that Ry Cooder plays a guitar with a neck that’s separated into three pieces. It’s worth extra $$$$. Three times the tone and sustain.

Drafting out a bridge plate for the T-60.
The end is extended a bit to cover the damage from whoever installed the trem as a bridge, and some holes so that I can bend it into shape.

Nice! If any measurements from my NB-4 are useful, I have a set of Vernier calipers and I know how to use ‘em.

I have an NB-4 over here that I'll be putting the bridge onto - always liked everything about the bass except the bridge (and how it moves all of the strings to one side if I try to adjust the intonation!) I'll post some pictures if it works out.

Re: Triple Awful Offset Restoration - Teisco, Stiles, Homemade Weirdo
I picked up a junky Teisco to donate some wood patches to the T-60, and it had the most pre-broken screws I've ever encountered on a guitar
The only screw holding the tailpiece down that wasn't broken was the size of a tuner screw.
