Wow, that's a lot of work to replace the headstock.
Nice to see you around Alfred. I hope your blueberry stash is OK.

The guy did an amazing job. The painting of the grain is like art! I think cmatthes or serial knew the guy, didn't he/they?

Yeh i ended up buying it very cheap off a guy in new york..I sold it after about a year..it's still residing in the uk somewhere..bulrich wrote: Eggwheat. Yes that was my first one you have there.
I bought it in about 1999 from a Guitar Center in Cleveland. I had asked them to track me down a MIJ one and one day I walked in a saw that one. It was black body, missing the trem arm and trem arm bushing. Someone also strangely locked the trem in place with a nasty screw (left all kinds of weird dents on the trem plate).
A great instrument. I sold it to help fund a move to Chicago and instead built one of the 1st USACG VI"s. Still play to replica often but love the 62's they really have a different feel tone. It's gonna be some real sweat to get it back up and running.

That guy could have done quite a number on my Project '64 neck (now residing with another forumite):jetset wrote: There was a blue Strat that had it's headstock repaired almost as drastically. The owner was trying to sell it on eBay without mentioning the surgery. It was a very good job though, down to carefully painting on woodgrain over the filler.

Shit. My first quote here in Chicago was about $650-$850.
Looks like if this neck gets restored, it'll be by me.
We'll see what the others say.

Look for more quotes. Still, I think it is a great project, and I KNOW you'll be happy in the end. Heck, it's a '62!bulrich wrote: Shit. My first quote here in Chicago was about $650-$850.

Re: 62 Bass VI...why oh why?!
I wonder if someone can post some measurements of the headstock width from the side (i.e. looking down at the headstock while wearing/playing the guitar).
Also if you have pics of the neck profile (from sides).
I've begun removing the ugh poly finish on the neck. I'm determined...

Talk to Stereordinary here on the board. He's got the skills, and he's got the love for offsets and VIs. I'm sure there's a way to get this VI whole again!

Re: 62 Bass VI...why oh why?!
Thanks for your support DB! Yeah, I wouldn't charge much more than the cost of wood and such just to see that thing whole again. I couldn't air-brush woodgrain onto it like that Strat pictorial, so it wouldn't be that nice, but it would look like a VI headstock and function like one.

Stereo,
I'll be in Portland early next month for a photography exhibition I'm having. We could even meet!
I should have the neck raw and prepped for the work. I would have to pay you something....

bulrich have you taken the truss rod out yet and compared to an original? this would definitely confirm that the neck you have is original.

Re: 62 Bass VI...why oh why?!
It certainly is original. I can even see a faded neck stamp underneath the sharpy marking.
Thanks Paul, I'll give you a ring.
