Boy that is a nice color for that Jag. Did you say you painted it your self or? I would be tempted to paint mine that color or something other than CAR from the time period, but I am a stickler for originality on guitars, cars and aircraft. How does it play?
Pretty nice thanks for the view. 8)
Cheers

It was painted by Joe Riggio in Tacoma Wa. The color is Charcoal Frost Metallic, which was one of the custom colors offered by fender in 1965.
Honestly, it looks better than it plays. Not sure why, as there are many Jags that play great. The frets are pretty low and maybe the nut slots need to be lowered to compensate? I might move it someday if I run across another amazing guitar.

If you know what it’s worth, and still bartered the old guy down then I’d consider it a morally dubious deal. Still, it will make a nice guitar when it’s done.

There was no real bartering, I had an ad on a web site ( locally ) asking if anyone has any old guitars for sale, so he listed his for sale for I believe $200, I called him and probably due to his age and he does not play anymore, if correct I believe he said he played the drums primarily at one time not so much the guitar, and I guess he could tell that I love to rebuild guitars. He was good about the price mostly due to the cost of martials and also wanted it to be put back into action, I even offered to build it for him for the time and paint, but I guess he just wanted it gone. So it was not so much about the money.
I actually did not know much about the Jaguar style guitars at the time it just looked cool. I just had a picture of one on my phone when I went to look at what he had in parts, that's what told me it wan not a Mustang but a Jaguar.

No it is chrome, just the reflection.
I guess the serial number for the decal for the headstock did not change if correct so I will attempt to install one again after the paint. Any one know of were to buy the best decals that will hold up to finishing.
Anyone also know what the numbers represent that are seen in the pickup cavity in the one picture. Kind of strange that they are there?
Cheers

oldfret is your place for decals

Finished a USACG neck with one of their decals and quality and finish seems to be pretty equal to decals on my vintage fenders.

Hope that helps, look forward to seeing it painted up.

One thing to note, if you're concerned with vintage correctness, is that pre-CBS Fender applied decals over the finish, with no final topcoats. With your neck being an early 65 it was likely finished in the same manner as pre CBS guitars, with the decal on top of the lacquer.

Good point, I saw that in the information. Scheduled now for the end of May for the paint due to C-19 virus.
Cheers

Today we put the bases coat down but due to not having the correct Candy Apple Red , (we have Cherry Candy ?) now on hold for the CAR to go on Monday. The gold looks good as it is, the old Shore Ling Gold. Getting closer. :)
