Any knowledge on Teisco paint colors?

Post by Devon111 » Fri Apr 15, 2022 2:14 pm

I've got this metallic blue Teisco that has some nasty road-rash on the corners and I'd like to touch it up instead of refinishing the whole guitar. Anyone know what that metallic blue color is or how I might match it up?

You might be SOL on an exact match. These guitars were made 40+ years ago and in Japan and the record keeping/general consistency wasn't stellar.

Even if you were able to figure out some of the paints used in the factory where these came from, there's no guarantee that they used that brand or color code for more than a few weeks. Even if they did, it was likely a small manufacturer with batch to batch variations, and it might not even be available anymore.

Your best bet might be searching for a close match in automotive touch up paint or maybe even nail polish.

Some places that sell custom colored paint have a scanner tool designed to "measure" the color of a paint sample and software then provides a formula for that color. I have never used this and really doubt that it will perfectly match... but who knows.

'Touch up' repairs are pretty dubious at the best of times and on something metallic are near impossible.

Can you link us to a picture of the damage?
