In response to sookwinders request for the pot codes on my Jaguar ( neck date code Nov 65 ). The pot codes are both 304-6545. The serial plate is 500041. Was the other 65 you know of also in this number sequence? By the way I just got to play it yesterday for the first time after a refret. I think you have another offset convert..... sweet!!

neck heel dates, neck plates, pot codes and pickup dates can legitimately vary as far as 1+ year and STILL be 100% OG.  I have a 64 Mustang with a Sept. 64 heel date, but the pups and pots are 65...after a few emails with Tim Pershing, and my sending him about 30 pics, he finally decided it was certainly a 64.  (YAY!)  So, I wouldn't get too excited if the dates are off on those pots or whatnot.   ;)

I agree 100% with the dates and codes varying as much as a year and being legit... but if a guitar has even one part from the next year (even within a year)... it HAS to be considered as being the later year (all respect due to Mr Pershing).  A guitar can't be older than it's newest original part.

If Fender put those pots in there... the guitar is a '65. The completion date is the determining factor. Now, if the guitar has ALL '64 features (to include the PAT PEND tail, it gets sticky). But it still didn't go out the door 'til '65.

Guitars aren't defined annually like say, cars are (where '65s were made in the fall of '64, etc). It's the date of final production that counts, as opposed to features.

Either way... it's cool.

As for the Jag... Those pots are fine, 45th week of 1965. But that 50 serial number is nearly 10 years off. However, as I said before, some weird things have surfaced. One example is some '66 - '67 Coronados that have 55 serial numbers. So many have surfaced that they're thought to be legit. I've never heard of this happening with Jags... but who knows? My personal opinion is that it's the wrong plate. A theory would be that someone pilfered the '65 plate for use on something else, and someone then came along and replaced it with a later one. You would probably have a hard time convincing most Fender folks otherwise.

that's the other thing...it really is quite easy to turn a 64 Fender into a 61 and whatnot if you know what you are doing...neck plates, misc. parts being changed out...
