Well.... it was killing me. I went for it!    :P

I can keep looking for the D&B neck, but in the meantime this is a better temporary neck than the Allparts.

I'm curious how the A neck will feel. I've only played them on shortscale offsets....

Edit:  taylorplayer, thanks for the link!

Thanks so much everyone! It's killing me to be here at work, apart from it.

I keep looking at the pics over and over...

SWEET..

The advantages of working overnight is you have to time to find stuff that's new on the market... my price for finding the neck..

If I'm ever in the area, I get a strum or two.  8) 8)

so envyous here... B&B is my favorite of the necks. That's going to look killer.
Need some XII pickup covers....

Man, that came out just beautiful.  I love the IBM.

I have a Bass VI refin in IBM in the works, but elected to send it out for paint (body needed some work too).  Now I really can't wait to get it back.

IV, V, VI, XII...

This is killing me - I hate to be a copy cat, but I really want to do a similar project...been eyeing this IBM color for a while...was going to do the XII in IBM(or black) until I sold it to taylorplayer to cover some baby costs...now I really want to sell my Nord Electro I never use to fund an offset project - I got an itch that needs to be scratched!

Do you have any photo's of the body with the allparts neck on it?  What do you think of how it looks after you modded it a bit?  "Close" or "not close enough"?

...this is one of those inspiring projects that makes you want to grab the nearest pieces of wood and turn it into a dream guitar!

I never drilled or mounted the Allparts neck. I did set it in place and admired it. It looks pretty good, but it's hard to tell without the hardware on it. The headstock shape is OK since I modded it, but it is noticeably smaller. I'm thinking the smallness will be even more apparent once the logo is on it. I even thought of shrinking  a logo down to about 75% and reprinting it (on decal paper). But of course, all that is mostly irrelevant now since I got the real neck coming.

Speaking of that... I've been having buyer's remorse all day. I kind of wish I had stuck with the Allparts neck until a D&B came along. I just won't be happy with the blocks and plus.. I REALLY want a matching head. I don't want to ruin the resale-ability of this genuine one.

At least I can probably get what I paid for it when I'm done with it if I leave it be. Another plus, it's drilled for Klusons which I have.

Funny, I haven't liked IBM all that much ever since the AVRI came out with it. Some of these "more exotic" colors have become so commonplace now, that I started to prefer "common" custom colors such as FR and LPB. But this does look pretty good to me!

Just flip the B+B neck and get one from Warmoth maybe? Or are they just 22 frets or something?

OT: Doug I paid for the lefty guard, hopefully you should get it soon. Let me when and I'll paypal some money!

I was in the auto parts store today and sure enough saw several diferent brands of IBM looking paint. As well as OTM and LPB.

For one thing, that will probably go up over 3K at the end.

For another... it wouldn't make much sense to BUILD a refin '65 Partsmaster and destroy a perfectly good ORIGINAL finish example to do it!

I might actually consider the idea if it was an abused beater.... but STILL! Why wouldn't I just restore the beater instead of building another from scratch?

That '65 on the bay looks amazing. I love '65s for some reason. I've got the knobs at least thanks to Doug!

mea culpa!
a- my colours have been exposed- i am not a purist like you folks.
b- i think that means i'm a dolt! (who in his right mind would separate that neck from the guitar?)
chuckle
just playing devil's advocate a bit. saw the auction and thought of your project. that's what i get for distracting myself at work with guitar-porn! i don't end up doing either properly.....

i do have to say though:
i've scratched my head when you guys flip over a guitar being parted out, but then enthusiastically  line up to buy the parts.
can we criticize someone for parting out a guitar when we wish to benefit from it? or do we just lament the dissection of a vintage beauty, and then, as long as it has been done, we might as well grab a piece of it?
i like partsmasters. almost all of my eight guitars are parts of this and that. i don't think i have quite arrived at the same level of vintage axe appreciation as you fellows.....
