I imagine it would just be the price of a Total Vintage neck (around $190 with plain maple and rosewood) and it's $110 for the binding. I was going to go with a strat neck but I know it would bother me so much. Especially with a '65 decal.

...why couldn't you just ask a luthier to make a one off JM dots & binding neck?  Cheaper than vintage and probably a pretty easy job for most competent luthiers.

Is there a true luthier in the house?

Yep. I traced the headstock of either my '62 or '64 and used that as a template. It was rough cut into shape with a Jigsaw and a bit used for cutting METAL. It isn't a very aggressive bit so the cutting was slow and it didn't splinter any. I then handshaped the rest using 80 grit sandpaper, then worked up to 600 or so with some filing in between.

a 'pro' (22 fret) warmoth neck with maple or rosewood fretboard is $157- i have always thought it was a good price!
Add $110 for binding, and you have $267- not too shabby! you could get it with a CBS headstock and whittle it down---
they *might* even do a 21 fret version and no Gotoh side adjustor.

Doug, I think the dots and binding looks better. The headstock still bothers me though. Personally it would keep bothering me.

Tommy at USACG told me they could do binding on a CBS headstock but it would cost about $180 more. Might be $200 I'm not sure but for the price you could sell the B+B for and the labour of sanding it down (I have a template for the headstock if you need it) might be worth it.

I took the time to do this (my photoshop skills aren't what they used to be):

I think it looks much better.

No really...

I'm NOT looking for any other temporary neck! It would be foolish to spend any more  while I wait on a vintage neck. If there's ANY decision to be made here, it would be between this vintage B&B or this Allparts neck... but either are ONLY until a vintage neck comes along.

Not trying to be short, but this keeps coming up. I really DO appreciate the tips but my mind is made up. The whole idea here is to build a vintage guitar.

Besides...
but for the price you could sell the B+B for
Anything I get when I flip it only pays for it.

If you get rid of the allparts neck I might be interested in it.

To be honest, it's gonna look good whatever you do.

Yeah... and it's in GREAT condition too;  finish, frets, logo, nut, everything!

I'm curious to play the A width. It feels pretty cool just holding it (w/o strings).

It was once on a factory refin. It had a name, some numbers, and LPB stamped on the bottom of the heel.

I think I kind of like how it looks with the blocks and binding MORE so than with the dots and binding, and I love dots and binding necks. It just sort of looks as though the dots and binding neck is....missing something about it that makes you go "what a beauty!". Often times blocks and binding guitars look too busy for the guitar, for me, but this one doesn't. Everything looks good!
