1970's Fender Mustang LEFTY - Pic Heavy

So back in October I came across a relatively cheap left handed project Mustang that I couldn't pass up. The seller said that it had some black overspray on the body, which was true, but failed to mention that it sustained some smoke damage from a house fire. He may have not legitimately known about this, but seeing as though my dad had a house fire about ten years back, I could tell right away. Anyway, I bought it with the intention of refinishing it anyway, and that only gave me more motivation. Seeing as though I'm a lefty and will most likely never have the opportunity to purchase the holy grail of lefty Mustangs- Comp blue or orange, I decided to give it a go. I had a hell of a time getting the tuners right on this thing, and the decal isn't perfect either, but I'm pretty happy with how the finish came out for a bunch of rattle cans. Even put the purple burst edging on there for kicks. Here she is:

Wow, I am really impressed with the whole thing. Especially the finer details: the color, the decal, the tuners.

Great job!!! :w00t:

Awesome work, I really like how the purple burst edges came out. Tell me, is it an A width neck? It looks pretty wide towards the heel.

It looks really cool. And as a fellow lefty, I am admittedly a bit jealous. :)

Enjoy playing that beauty!

Not sure about the width of the neck off hand, the code on the heel is so faded it's almost non-existent. I'll have to measure.

Well said, Shadow!!
Sometimes I'm really tempted to strip my sonic blue lefty mustang and turning into a faded blue compstang...
Dammit... why is Fender so discriminating on us..

Fender, Gibson... There are a few for sure. I don't mind. It makes my wallet feel a little better. Plus, knowing me, I'd mod the shit out of it anyways, so at least now I can get exactly what I want from the start with a diy guitar project...

What you say is true, indeed... I've basically modded every guitar I own, heck.. I've also modded my natural born scratch builds but still, it would be nice to get in a guitar store, grab one of either fender or squier jag/jazz/stang you find appealing or fitting you like a glove and to go home straight away to play the thing until you feel/need to start a new mod. We simply CAN'T do that like right-handed people..

Yeah. I had actually never played a decent tele "lefty side up" until a few years ago--and I've been playing guitars well over 20 years.

Trying to play a righty offset upside-down just seems wrong in every way, so that's not worked for me. I haven't run into a scenario where I could try out a lefty offset yet, either, unfortunately. It's the way it is, more or less.

I've had to purchase/special order at least 2 guitars, simply based on playing the righty verions, upside-down...

Recently I've been pondered grabbing a really cheapo righty and trying to just get 'basics' down playing right handed non upside-down for various reasons...it's kind of humorous to try it, as you know what your hands should be doing, but it's like being stuck in a beginners body, all over again.

You did a GREAT job.
I thought it was the first lefty Purpleburst Mustang I have ever seen before I read your text.
100 points on this one! Enjoy it!!
