Does never signing out affect "unread posts since last visit"?

  Out of sheer laziness, I checked the box to always stay logged in. 

  When I come in, I go to "Show new replies to your posts." and then "Show unread posts since last visit." and then I leave.*
  I've been noticing lately (which probably means it's been going on all along) that when I actually go into the different sections, there are threads that I've never seen before.  Like, I just now (on the 20th of October) noticed a thread that was started on the 13th that I had somehow missed!
  Is this a quirk of the website or is it because I never log out?!?


*...then, ten minutes later I come back and do it all over again!

Staying logged in has no effect on the unread posts.  If you want to see unread posts you might have missed (a couple visits ago) hit the "all unread topics" button toward the bottom right instead.
