How about a "like" button for posts?

One thing to consider is that on a forum where nobody likes likes because it tally's likability or makes the excessively liked look overly likable, nobody who doesn't like likes will like, so, like, likes will not end up unlikable.

You see, that's another another thing, people are kind of obsessed with "+1" or "me too" posts... what's wrong with them?
I'm also against like buttons and in favor of de-demonizing +1 posts LOL

Don't you think this 'social influencer' status is already baked-in at this site with the post count feature? Avoiding a 'like' feature because some people won't get any likes doesn't really make sense to me. I also come from other forums that use 'likes', and I still value my autonomy. I'm not in any cliques, other than the 'Bigsby' clique or the 'Guild/Gretsch/Harmony' clique. It's just not a big deal. There are hundreds of posts here at OSG I wish I could 'like', but don't because a quote/post is excessive and threads get unwieldy. I end up just passing through. The 'like' is great for a quick, positive interaction.Jay wrote: ↑Fri Nov 23, 2018 2:17 pmI'm a member of another forum that has a like button. It has one positive I can find... it eliminates the need for people to feel they need to go "me too" or "+1." Unfortunately, it's mostly turned the place into a popularity contest. The users who carry the most influence in the community at large, will gather a ton of likes from people regardless what they post—and so you get a hive mind clique-y thing going on that I find incredibly annoying.

I have not seen evidence of this at other forums I participate in; most participants are adults who are not interested in such adolescent social metrics.Telemnemonics wrote: ↑Sat Nov 24, 2018 7:12 pmOne thing to consider is that on a forum where nobody likes likes because it tally's likability or makes the excessively liked look overly likable, nobody who doesn't like likes will like, so, like, likes will not end up unlikable.

I don’t think that actually... IMO post count is a reflection of quantity and not much else. The only status levels we really have here are user, 50 post user who can access the FS forums, expat (which I gather almost nobody knows is even a thing anymore because its barely even a thing anymore) and modmins, who mostly just help with administration stuff. I would say that you can absolutely put the latter group into some “social influencer” status here at OSG because the group of people that help with this, or those that have helped in the past, really set the tone for the type of forum we wanted to run from the start. And for the most part, OSG has kept that going for past 10 years now with little additional effort.Debaser wrote: ↑Thu Dec 20, 2018 1:10 pmDon't you think this 'social influencer' status is already baked-in at this site with the post count feature? God no. Please.
Or, include several options for those of us who are more comfortable communicating by clicks:
Love Ecstatically
Like
Kinda Like
Disagree But Still Like
Agree But Not Like
Don’t Like, Offense Intended
Hate
Please Kill Me Because You Are So Stupid

I‘m in that camp too I guess!
For „likes“ we already got those social media platforms.
Oh how I love those (project in progress for instance) threads that are constantly evolving from a simple „subscribed“ or „+1“ or „
At least for me that is way more useful than a simple like-o-meter! It‘s actually a lower threshold to interact and to show how you actually feel about a project or a topic! I myself get a lot of inspiration and insight/understanding here that I don‘t get on let‘s say instagram. It‘s guitar-porn on a higher educated level! (Even if the same pics may appear there too)
