Re: OSG site slow to respond?
It may be a sporadic issue with digital ocean? I see intermittent slowness that correlates with packet loss…

Re: OSG site slow to respond?
It's going to be looked into but it seems like it sorted itself out as this morning things feel very snappy. I was having similar slowdowns with a site hosted elsewhere yesterday, that also seemed to sort itself out, so I wonder if there wasn't an issue further up the chain.

Network routing is a weird thing and if a routing table has a bad entry on one DNS node it can cause network traffic to take some weird paths that slow things down or outright kill them.Jay wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 9:13 amIt's going to be looked into but it seems like it sorted itself out as this morning things feel very snappy. It's like dial-up, in the olden days.

There was a time that I ran a BBS off my computer and I got to be able to tell the connection rate by the particular tones in the handshake.

Still seeming to take an age to load the home screen for me. Although once that has loaded I seem to be able to roam the rest of the forums absolutely fine.

Re: OSG site slow to respond?
All pages seem super slow right now, not just the home page (which was the case for me yesterday)

It's weird that it's intermittent...Bradley-Jazz wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 5:41 amAll pages seem super slow right now, not just the home page (which was the case for me yesterday)
Also, I'm running a traceroute to see response times from me at work (I work for a school district with a big fat pipe and currently no kids or teachers for summer) and the result was... Odd. I'm used to a node here or there having the request time out due to ICMP being disabled but this was ALL of them.
Code: Select all
Tracing route to offsetguitars.com [165.227.106.109]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.201.81.1
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 * * * Request timed out.
4 * * * Request timed out.
5 * * * Request timed out.
6 * * * Request timed out.
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * * * Request timed out.
9 * * * Request timed out.
10 * * * Request timed out.
11 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms 165.227.106.109
Trace complete.

Re: OSG site slow to respond?
I'm going to take the site down at 11am EDT. I've got to do a snapshot before a reboot, and a reboot before I kick the problem up the chain. I don't think we'll be down for more than 30 minutes and I'll have it back up ASAP.

Yet I can ssh to the instance with no trouble or lag whatsoever and have been able to do so the entire time.GilmourD wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 6:21 amIt's weird that it's intermittent...Bradley-Jazz wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 5:41 amAll pages seem super slow right now, not just the home page (which was the case for me yesterday)
My guess is a sour, but not entirely rotten, node in a cluster somewhere.
