Uploading New Avatar Photo Issues...

Post by Surfysonic » Mon Feb 12, 2024 4:08 pm

Hi guys, I'm trying to upload a new avatar photo since I just sold my '63 Jaguar (current photo). Here are its properties:

Size: 14.5 KB

Pixels: Horizontal (wide): 59, Vertical (tall): 80

I initially tried to upload it before realizing the need to resize it. After resizing it, I get the following error which shows the original file size:
The submitted avatar is 4000 pixels wide and 3000 pixels high. Avatars must be at least 40 pixels wide and 30 pixels high, but no larger than 100 pixels wide and 80 pixels high.
Filename: Surfy_JM_avtr.jpg

Image

Please let me know if there is something I need to do differently or if you can help me resolve the issue.

Thanks! :)

I had no trouble changing my avatar to the graphic that you uploaded to this thread. Maybe just refresh/reload and try again?

Yup, I tried that without success a few times. Glad to see that it is possible to work. Thanks, I'll have another go at it. :)

Edit: Still no luck. I deleted my current avatar, deleted board cookies, refreshed, closed out Google Chrome altogether, and I also tried to do the remote avatar option but it wouldn't recognize the 2 urls that I have from Imgur (Image link, Direct Link).

I created a different avatar image with the following specs:

80 W
59 H
15.4 kb

Still get this error:
The submitted avatar is 4000 pixels wide and 3000 pixels high. Avatars must be at least 40 pixels wide and 30 pixels high, but no larger than 100 pixels wide and 80 pixels high.

I re-uploaded my '63 Jag avtr with success. It looks like the file size is only 6kb or something, so I'll attempt to resize one of my new ones to get the file size down to 6kb or so.

I reduced the file size down to 13.5 kb / Width: 49 / Height: 66. Still same error as before.

Also attempted remote upload from my Imgur repository - used the Image Link without success and the Direct Link without sucess.

At this point, I give up. Hopefully, an admin or mod can help me. :'(

Have you tried giving the file a different name? It's possible the system thinks your smaller files are the same file as your too large one that you first uploaded.

Thanks for the suggestion, TPD, much appreciated. Unfortunately, I get the same error for changed filenames and altogether newly created avatar images. I forgot to mention, too, that I cleared Google Chrome's cache and stuff after closing it out and re-opening it. :derp:

I had the same issue not so long ago, tried a whole bunch of things just as above. I don't remember what it was that made it work, but the last couple of things I recall trying were: taking a screenshot of the photo, (cropping it of course,) and uploading that instead, and changing the file format to/from jpg/png. I almost always use png so I probably changed it to jpg. That may have been what finally made it work, but I'm not sure.

Yay! OK, changing my avatar back before I forget about it again.
