Embed YouTube and Soundcloud etc?

Post by monark » Sun Apr 03, 2011 10:20 am

Is it possible to do? I know Soundcloud has bbcode for embedding:

http://blog.soundcloud.com/2009/07/28/s ... d-bb-code/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i dunno about YouTube... but for the Music section, would be nice to be able to offer a sample where you don't have to click away...

We made a conscious decision not to embed youtube video because we felt it wasn't a big deal for folks to click and open the actual youtube page and it saved bandwidth for users with crappy connections. I dunno... I prefer the clean look of a link anyway. Still, if everyone else really wants youtube video embedding as an option we won't stand in the way.

It might just be me, but I vote 'nay'. YouTube/flash-based crap significantly slows down page loads (and more frustratingly - scrolling!) on other sites I visit that have it enabled, and I have a pretty good 'net connection.

I vote for no embedding too. One of my (many) pet hates is trying to click on a link only to find I've actually clicked on something else because the page has 'redrawn' itself thanks to some kind of embedded crap.

Also, when you start playing an embedded video in a music thread and have the music interrupted when you move to the next page of the thread, headwrecking. Embedding is bad :)
There is no problem so bad that you can't make it worse.

I don't know if this topic is up for being revisited, and I know I'm new, but...

Every other forum I frequent enables youtube/etc. embeds. I never really thought about it much, but since I started paying attention to this forum a little while back... I notice that it's missing.

If there were a poll, I'd vote for embeds, early and often.

We are not every other forum. We sniff cork. We stand alone! ;)

Kids, say no to embedding.
We got people playing stringed instruments! It's the end of days.

The internet etc moves on, so can I ask the question again please.

Is it admissable to post links to YouTube band videos?

Doesn't rob much bandwidth & this site is very quick anyway.

No problem if the answer is no, but it is ok elsewhere on Fender related sites.

Thanks.

You can post links as you please... check the music discussions etc.

They just won't be embedded on the site. Which is very very good.

+1.

The main reason I'm here is because it isn't like every other site.

Streamlined. OSG was the first forum I frequented, and I don't know if that's the cause of my tastes, but I can't stand sifting through all the flashing this and that. What next, animated avatars? Images and a list of links for our signatures? I'm already getting ready to make a complaint about the red link bar thing at the top of the page; it's such a stimulating color... Okay, seriously though, the last part about the red bar was a joke, but the rest is how I feel.
