I know, it makes me sad too

But like Frank said in another thread, the prices today WILL be cheap compared to a couple years time. That still doesn't put any more money in my pocket, but it's definitely true. I remember when all he nice sunburst pre CBS JMs were consistently selling for $1500

Although some here remember when they were only a few hundred bucks, which sucks even more.

totaly!
I think I'll be able to stretch to one more pre-CBS Jazzmaster (refin) by the end of next year...it should be about $3.5k for a decent refin by then.....
and after that, I'll probably get a pre-CBS Jaguar the year after, and that would be the end of it....unless I become a millionaire - which is highly unlikely!

Well no need to sob then.
By the time I get of Uni and get a job prices will have probably tripled at least. And to make things worse, I live in Europe!

I live in London...doesn't get any more expensive here in Europe
I was basicaly always hoping that dropping near $4k on an offset, would get me an all-original example...but that boat has long since sailed for me, as I like the '61 slab boards.
so a refin is the only other option.

I paid $700 for my first Jazzmaster in '91, and that was a dealer price. It was an Oly White refin '67. A few years later I traded a '70s Tele that I bought for $400 for a sunburst '65 that was all original except for a fret job. The best JM I ever owned was an all orginal sunburst '64 with clay dots and a transition logo, which cost $1299 from a dealer in '94. Unfortunately, I don't own any of those any more and I paid $2K for my LBP refin with replaced pots in the last year and was glad to get it at that price...

I remember an article from one of the "vintage guitar" magazines from the late 90's where they were laughing that someone had spent $1,200 on a Jazzmaster. Something like - "Well it was dead mint, and a custom color, but a Jazzmaster??"

I foolishly passed up a '61 beat-up sunburst for 2000. Talked them down from 2500. They didn't know what they were talking about. Impatience led me to a '64 Jaguar for 1500. It wasn't the same. Sold it and got my money back but could only afford a AVRI JM. Love it, but I got my regrets.

I got my '60 oly white JM back in 2000 for $2,200 and I had to swallow hard to shell out that much cash.
I shudder to think what I'd have to pay for it today...and since they'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands, the inflation doesn't do anything for me but make me nervous to take it out.

I know how you feel,i hide mine in a secret hiding place when i go out in case the house gets broken into, would never sell it unless i desperately needed to,the value of it makes the ownership a little stressful in some ways.

That's the beauty of a refin; not as much to worry about
