Jaguar Bass and AVRI

Post by serial » Tue Nov 28, 2006 8:23 pm

Got a call from a buddy of mine who knows Alan Rogan yesterday afternoon around 2pm.
"Steve-what're ya doing tonight?"
"I don't know Greg, but I'm sure you'll tell me".
"Wanna go see halfanEnglishband at Hershey?"
"Who?"
"Exactly".

Much to my delight, the opening act was the Pretenders (one of my all time faves with Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon).  Fortunately, they played mostly Pretenders/Pretenders II stuff, so I was in heaven.  Guitar player (ex from the Katydids) sported an AVRI surf green Jaguar and tortured it beautifully (among other guitars).

The Who was OK, but I had a hard enough time watching them w/o Moonie, even tougher w/o Entwistle.  Zak Starkey was actually the highlight-he sounded and played just like Keith.  He was so impressive at the beginning of the first set, I'd be willing to bet Pete and/or Roger asked him to hang back-he was more subdued the rest of the show.  Anyway, Pino Pallodino was playing a nice-looking black Jaguar bass.  Didn't sound like John E, but he is a great player and was solid w/great tone.  Nice bass.

Great seats courtesy of Alan and we got to hang out afterwards on the bus talking guitars.  Good lord, that guy knows EVERYTHING!  A fun evening for sure!
Destiny's in her evening gown; you're always running late.
You tell her she looks wonderful but she'll just have to wait.

Adam Seymour is THE guy!  Freakin' great player, and much better fit in that band than Robbie MacIntosh was.

Pino Palladino is a beast, his P-Bass tone is amazing.
