Classic vibe jazzmaster or vintera 60s

Post by dirty_frank13 » Sat Jan 16, 2021 9:58 am

Hallo. I always wanted an Olympic white jazzmaster with bound neck and block inlays. So I think to buy one of these and later find a neck and replace it. I can’t go to a used Japanese the prices are too high. What you suggest me to do ?

Finding a vintage correct B and B neck is not possible right now. No, not even Musikraft. They’ll either add an extra block and the dimension sizes of their blocks are off. On top of that, you’d pay close to $500 or more for it.

Yes I know it will be difficult to find a neck like I want it. Except if mod the neck in someone will know to do it and I guess it will cost me a lot.

If you don’t care about precision then go for it. If I have to spend that kind of dough on something that doesn’t look right I’d assume just keep dots

Thanks for your answers. I will think a little more and I will take a decision. Νοw I am at 60% to classic vibe. I also found a Chinese neck with B and B. Maybe I will take the risk and buy it

I can only speak to what I think will happen if you buy that neck. Most likely it won’t be built as good as the Squier neck. You might have to do some work to it to make it play well (if it fits), and you also won’t be getting 100% accuracy in terms of Fender B and B. If you don’t care about any of that and you like the look of the neck, go for it. If it’s cheap it doesn’t hurt to try.

You do know if you wanted to go the route of a Jaguar that you could get one with B&B now. Although the blocks are still not the right size compared to vintage CBS era Fender. They are at least Squier necks and while not top of the line, they have a consistency in their quality better than most eBay Chinese necks.

Dark horse: Look for a used MIJ 66 RI. Prices have crept up on these, but they're fantastic guitars, with a matching headstock. I have an Oly White one myself and the only problem I have with the guitar is I don't like the tort on the pickguard. :D

That was my first thought but I check the prices at ebay and reverb and disappointingly. I think is too much money if you think that I have to change the pickups, bridge and maybe the tremolo the price goes up more.

That I have found is very closed to the vintage CBS era Fender and I know that I will need to do some job. I have the classic vibe Jaguar and I like how it sounds that’s why I I thought to go to a classic vibe jazzmaster

TBF Reverb and eBay prices are grossly inflated, so I'd keep my eyes on the classifieds or local FB groups.

But honestly, having owned both American and Japanese offsets, I don't think you need to change any of that at once. The pickups on both the CV and the MIJ aren't great, the bridge is serviceable on both with a good setup (or a cheap mustang bridge drop-in), and there's absolutely no problem I've noticed with the MIJ trem in over 15 years of playing Japanese Fenders.

Thank you for your help. I will make patience for a Japanese and if not find anything then I see what I do

With b and b I would say $1100 to $1300 would be a good price

Since you’re changing necks & will probably change other stuff why buy new..

If all you want is a platform get a used CV or VM.. The Duncan Pickups are one of the best features of the Guitars.. IMO.. No need to upgrade..

Change the Neck, Bridge, Nut, Electronics & maybe the Trem & you’ll have your special Guitar at a reasonable cost...
