Looking for Mosrite copy with skinny neck

Post by Dee_thirteen » Thu Sep 16, 2021 10:27 pm

I'm a big Ramones fan and I'm looking for Mosrite Mark II / Ventures model copy, without bigsby, and skinny neck.
I believe original Mosrites have stick neck so that's what I'm after, it would be good for my small-ish hands anyway. But they cost a lot so copy it is.
What I've seen available so far: Eastwood Sidejacks and Aria DM look good but have normal thick necks (42/20), Danelectro 64XT has weird headstock and 64 has bigsby (and thick necks). Eastwood Mach Two should have thinner neck but it's hard to find. All of these are hard to find anyway. I could have Aria ordered but the neck.... hmh. (I live in europe so I try to avoid crazy shipping costs and import taxes)

Are there any skinny ones? (By skinny I mean narrow nut and thin neck) My LP has 42/20 so I want skinnier than that.

I want black guitar, but if the neck is really good, I'm willing to think about sunburst too.

EDIT: forgot the fret size. Which one has smallest size?

Check out Hallmark Guitars.. Closest you can get to a Mosrite unless it’s a Mosrite.. Great Guitars & not expensive.. They offer a Johnny Ramone model…

Actually, I just looked at these. I'm interested in Hallmark II and JR signature models, they look really nice. But I can't find neck dimensions anywhere. I just need to know Nut width and Neck thickness... I wonder if they'd be willing to modify the tail...

I had a Wilson Ventures model a few years back. I have small hands and that had a really comfortable fast neck.

You can call them & ask about Specs.. I have a friend who bought one & he said they were really cool to work with… He got a Pearl White 60’s. I’ve seen it & played it. I thought it was an excellent Guitar..

I’d be on the lookout for a Univox Hi-Flier if I were you.

Like all other guitars lately people are psychopaths and trying to list them with a straight face for 3/4x what any reasonable person could ever truly value them at, but there are deals to be had for sure. They made identical guitars with all sorts of headstock logos/appointments and I feel good about saying that any of them would be an objectively better investment and more enjoyable experience than any Eastwood or similar contemporary replica you might run across.

I had a white Phase 3 and it was the lightest guitar I’ve ever owned or probably ever played, just a hair above 3 pounds, and the neck was like a few sheets of paper-thin so I’d imagine you could find something there that would fit into the box of yr preferences

In fact here is probably the best deal I’ve seen on one of these things in a while, and if I’m
Not mistaken this, the Phase 2 version, is a little more rare than the Phase 3 or 4, with the cool pickups. That neck tint looks so good on it

***edit - just noticed the cracks around the neck pocket, which interestingly was a problem I had with mine. I’m by no means an experienced tech, but I remember reading that it was a common issue with these guitars because of the thin bodies and the neck pocket being shallow or something. I fixed mine myself with a little glue and some pressure and am confident you could do the same and leverage that fact into an offer you might hypothetically make. Buying stuff to fix and wait forever to play isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, just thought I’d share anyway :)

I rather not call overseas ;D Anyway, I just got mail Shade saying that Hallmark II is no more in production, so I guess that's out then :( If I understood correctly, 65 custom is out too, but I'm still waiting for confirmation on that one. Looks like I need to keep eye on Rev. Although it seems these guitars are rare as hell.

I have strong feeling that I need to forget about getting really skinny neck and "settle" for normal sized neck, which seems to be 42/20 on every model I've seen so far and got info of.

I read some info about Hi-Fliers and it said it's basically same guitar from 1 to 4 with just small changes, like little bit thinner necks on phase 3 and 4. I don't know if that's true, I'd rather have measurements from actual Univox owner than random internet sites.
Anyway, I would prefer humbucker on my guitar (although that can be fixed later by luthier if needed) and to be honest, Phase 3 sunburst with black pickguard looks absolutely beautiful.

Guyatone, eh? heh, never heard of such brand. Looks good. I'll check this one, thanks. And yeah... fixing stuff is really not my thing.

Their Facebook page seems alive, well & active. There Home base is located in Md… To the best of my knowledge the Components come from different Offshore sources but the Guitars are assembled in the U.S.

I'm sure they are active, just not making these certain models anymore.

I just received a email from Bob Shade.. They are indeed in business.. They can be contacted in the USA either by phone or email. He said they may be out of some models but they are definitely still in business.. Hallmarks are as close as you can get to a real Mosrite…

Here is an interview with Bob Shade about Hallmark Guitars….

I asked about Hallmark II, he said it's out of production. I asked about JR signature, few left. I asked about 65 Custom, out too.
If they don't have those, I might look for Univox.
Wait, Hallmark has wider neck than Mosrite? Does any of the copys actually have as skinny neck as Mosrite then?

Also, do Hallmarks, Univoxs, have small frets?

I play Fender AV65 Jag, AV65 JM, Epi Casino's, Gibson LP's most of the time. The 60's Hallmark Neck I played felt about the same.. Not sure if you consider those skinny but they aren't fat... Good luck..

I'd like a 60's in Sunburst or Pearl White. At $999.00 they're definitely priced right, look great, sound great & are xlnt quality Guitars... Thanks for giving me GASS!!!

Good luck..

I inquired via email about a 60's Hallmark & they're out of stock until after the first of the year.. I'm going to get one! $999.00 with Hard Case!

I could take 65 Custom or Hallmark II... if they come available.
Paintjob for JR signature would be 470 so I think I'll pass on that one...Just a silly thought.
