Most hardware stores have wood dyes and oil dyes which would do the job, especially with a stain prep rubbed into the wood first. A lot of ebony fretboards are dyed to hide the blonde streaks which naturally run through most ebony.

Stewmac sell Higgins fountain ink as fretboard dye. This is a very commonly found ink, it's cheap (about $4 a bottle from art suppliers) and works great. Once the ink dries, some fretboard oil locks it in place and you'll have a nice and dark fretboard.

i don't know what you mean, but most indian laurel i have seen could pass for rosewood.
It's just kind of crazy that fender is putting out $1000 plus guitars and people want to dye the fretboards, while a squier affinity jazzmaster gets heaps of praise because the fretboard looks so much nicer (on a recent thread in this forum).

Squier uses at least two species of wood under the name "Indian laurel", and they look very different.
About two years ago I bought a CV Mustang neck for a project. The fretboard is truly horrendous. Very pale, yellowish light brown, with a really ugly loose grain and huge pores. I'm not super picky about fretboards but this wood looks really cheap and crappy.
Earlier this year I got one of the new Paranormal Super-Sonics. The fretboard is supposed to be Indian laurel as well, but it looks nothing like the CV Mustang's. It looks a little like Indian rosewood indeed, maybe a little less reddish and with less depth. Quite dark with very fine grain. Rather nice-looking.
But I still prefer Pau Ferro
