NGD - Belt Sander Special 2001 62 AVRI JM
Someone had a hell of a time beating this thing up, but it oozes mojo. Had for a steal from reverb, played a little price ping-pong and noticing it sat untouched for a few weeks...plays like a dream and finally the jazzmaster experience I've been seeking after going through a few new ones over the last couple years.

Love the body checking but the belt sander and the headstock are a bit much - suggest maybe a bit of white to mimic primer on the bare patch, rubbed back, and I suspect the headstock crazing has been inked in so it might ease up with a damp cloth ...
Beautiful colour and guitar tho!!

Completely agree with this assessment, and will definitely try both of those.MatthewK wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 5:06 pmLove the body checking but the belt sander and the headstock are a bit much - suggest maybe a bit of white to mimic primer on the bare patch, rubbed back, and I suspect the headstock crazing has been inked in so it might ease up with a damp cloth ...

Thanks, much appreciated! I've been quite negligent making videos during the pandemic as my wife is now working from home. She's recently gone back into her office a couple of days a week, so I really should stop being lazy and put some more content out. I have quite a bit of gear that I need to move on so I better get on those videos before the gear is gonegraceless wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 5:09 pmCompletely agree with this assessment, and will definitely try both of those.MatthewK wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 5:06 pmLove the body checking but the belt sander and the headstock are a bit much - suggest maybe a bit of white to mimic primer on the bare patch, rubbed back, and I suspect the headstock crazing has been inked in so it might ease up with a damp cloth ...

As much as I hate relics... I... don't dislike this

That's actually not as bad as I imagined when I saw the title. Cool!

the arm wear reminds me of a gobstopper.

I've got a predilection for Seafoam and Surf Green Jazzmasters, they're my ideal of an offset. But I generally hate relic'd stuff. Used and worn is fine, relic'd isn't my thing. It puts me off guitars immediately when I see it's been artificially aged.
But holy hell, that thing is ****ing awesome. The gobstopper on the contour? The "vintage surfy EVH" or whatever's going on with the headstock? The tasteful (parchment?) guard?
And it's a '62 AVRI? Oh, you scored. That's a fine slice of gorgeous, right there. And I bet it sounds amazing. Really hope you enjoy and bond, congrats!

Yes, I'm totally in the same boat. I don't mind a 'closet classic' finish but anything beyond that usually grosses me out.MrShake wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 4:36 am

For some reason it's easier for me to swallow that someone else did this...it has a built in history...some good, some bad!
But either way looks pretty cool.
Plays freaking amazing for a 20 year old guitar. So psyched on it.

Congratulations, that looks like a great score, the armwear is a little OTT for me but wouldn’t put me off if the price is right. i recently picked up a 2001 refinned AVRI myself, loving it at the moment.
One small thing, are those pickups stock? Hard to judge from the pics but they don’t look like the stock AVRI bevelled pole pieces.
